Bikes Help Leo get a new liver—he really needs it!

Posted by The Unpaid Intern on Fri, Nov 30 at 4:19 PM

Free Geek and Yea Bicycles are trying to help out Leo, a 12-year-old boy diagnosed with a rare liver disease. He’s the son of a volunteer at Free Geek, and though his illness has gotten worse lately, he’s still trying to enjoy life as he waits for a liver transplant.

But liver transplants are super expensive, so Free Geek has set up a donation fund and Yea bicycles is raising money through a special Midnight Mystery Ride. They want everyone to participate, so take a moment and check out how you can help a sick kid get better and enjoy an awesome cool bike ride event, or click here to learn more about Leo and how to donate money to help him get the new liver he needs.

What a buzzkill...I was so expecting a funny story about some alcoholic.

richest country in the world and this kid can't get a liver without a fundraiser. wtf?

That kid's in dire straits, and while he's insured (so the transplant will be covered), there's lots of hospital stays, special vitamins, traveling expenses to see specialists, and ongoing care to pay for. Thus, the fundraiser.

Leo's the kid of Free Geek's Tech Support Coordinator (a staff member) and he helps run the organization's continuing education and techno-upkeep side of thing. So supporting Leo and him fam is a nifty way of supporting Free Geek and its mission.
