News Good Morning, News

It’s time for that sweet democracy hangover: Measure 49 passed 61 percent to 39 percent, but Measure 50 went down by a massive margin. Officially, this means that Matt Davis has to admit that my predictions were right and his were wrong.

Who would Jesus endorse? Televangelist Pat Robertson is throwing his support behind Rudy Giuliani, which may seem odd, given that they disagree on every issue that matters to conservative Christians. On Monday, Moral Majority co-founder Paul Weyrich announced that he was backing Mitt Romney. While it may look like religious conservatives are splitting because they can’t find a candidate to rally around, this could actually mean that they’ve changed their standards enough that they’ll all get behind whoever the GOP nominee is. Meaning, don’t go looking for a third party spoiler next year.

Speaking of lowered standards! The Senate Judiciary Committee has approved the nomination of Michael Mukasey to attorney general, despite the fact that he couldn’t make up his mind about whether water boarding is torture. Call me naive, but isn’t that a distinction—whether yes or no—that one might expect an attorney general nominee to formulate in his or her mind?

Will Rosie O’Donnell join her fellow America-hating liberals at MSNBC?

A girl in India who was born with four arms and four legs underwent a successful surgery to “remove what amounted to Lakshmi Tatma’s headless identical twin sister.”

Oh, you thought Britney Spears’ new album was No. 1? You thought wrong. She got trounced by, ha ha, The Eagles, who’ve been awarded the top slot on the music charts. Your dad’s favorite rock supergroup sold 711,000 copies of their reunion album—available only through Wal-Mart stores—while Spears sold 290,000 of her newest “effort.”

A teen-age gunman killed at least eight people in Finland.

Finally, in commemoration of Mukasey’s near-certain approval as attorney general, here’s Keith Olbermann doing the intellectual work that Mukasey refuses to do:

That first paragraph is a bit misleading don't you think? The margins on both measures were both 60/40ish...what makes one massive?

Well, and according to the Oregonian this morning, the Interstate renaming has suddenly become a fait accompli.

Sounds like Eric Sten just got tired of the whole thing, and changed his mind, making the decision 3-2 in favor of the Chavez-ing.

Both sides in this one have behaved like children, as has been noted. I don't personally care, but I still wonder why This Particular Street And No Other became the rallying cry for the Chavezites. It's odd, and seems unnecessarily authoritarian.

Unfortunately, they're not even being gracious in victory. There were quotes to the effect of "we'll be watching..." and even more stupidity along the lines that they'll try to sink anyone running in '08 who opposed them.

Ah hell. Go there n' read it yourself. Then make fun of it, please.

Scott's predictions were right and mine were wrong. I expected the opposite result on both measures.

Good job I didn't bet that $5, though, eh, Scott. A "gentleman's agreement" means no beating from my wife. Yay!

Ah, gambling. [sighhhhhhh]

gah! who votes against health insurance for kids???

did anyone see any of the apparently very-effective big tobacco ads on television?

seems to be indicative of the entire process. The "claims" of racial remarks as the leading concern...just a mask for BS cry babies who don't have an answer for anything (like why this street).

what a weak way out, and a terrible way to "honor" someone as Cezar Chavez who worked so hard for rights, not cry babies.

According to Blogtown yesterday, too.

It's worth noting that The Eagles hit #1 because this week, in lieu of their high sales, Billboard changed the the charts to include albums that are only sold through one outlet, IE Walmart. Up until now, those exclusive albums have not been allowed on the Billboard 200. I feel ripped off, because I really wanted Blackout to be #1, but it sold about 350,000 copies less than the Eagles new one.

Calling all conspiracy theorists:

MSNBC is either slated to or has moved to a strange place on your dial only making it accessible by digital cable subscribers. It's channel 120 something now. Do what thou wilt with this information.

Jay,

That's not a conspiracy, that's capitalism (although, the former is probably implied by the latter). Comcast wasn't gouging enough people, so they decided to move a liberal station*, in a liberal city to a higher priced package. This is why I hate cable. They have way too much control, and will until a la carte channel selection is available (should that ever get off the ground).

*"liberal station" is assuming the categorization in the blog entry is correct. I don't watch MSNBC (or much else on TV other than Heroes...)
