Music Jens Lekman

Posted by Alison Hallett on Wed, Nov 7 at 9:42 AM

I’ll admit I was a little late to the Jens Lekman party—some of his lyrics still make me cringe a bit, and “he’s Swedish” is NO EXCUSE. But the man can write a pop hook like nobody’s business. Aaaaaand he’s kinda dreamy, and when my friend saw him in DC he gave her a hug! (This is the kind of coverage you get when the music editor goes out of town.) Mr. Lekman performs tonight at the Someday Lounge, 125 NW 5th, $12. Here he is with a swinging rendition of “The Opposite of Hallelujah”:

Wait, his lyrics make your cringe? Which ones? I need samples! I think he's easily one of the top five lyricists working today.

I cannot wait for this show tonight. Today is going to the longest day of work EVER.

he's only kinda dreamy, though. i made the mistake of reading an informative blog post about him. always a bad idea (why, hot grizzly bear guys, whyyyy?). lekman says he's single because ever since some chick named "sara", "everyone has been boring."

faithful love is all very charming but really? everyone? is boring? mr. lekman, i'm pretty sure it's your problem, not "everyone's".

anyway, here's a link to links to get good jens lekman (and openers throw me the statue) mp3s, for people like me who tell themselves mp3 blogs are more ethical than bit torrent because they're inefficient.

The song where he's all, "F-word, F-word, pardon my French..." comes to mind. I HATE that song. And I think some of the rhyming sounds kind of forced. But I've mostly come around.
