Film Marmite: Love it or Hate it?

Posted by Wm. Steven Humphrey on Tue, Nov 27 at 12:16 PM

Starting on Saturday, December 1, the Northwest Film Center will be showing the 2007 British Ad Awards—featuring the best commercials to come out of England. Naturally, the Brits do a better job at advertising than we do (a topic I cover fully in my review of the film coming up in this week’s paper). For example, check out this silver medal-winning, hilarious ad for that questionable spread Marmite, in which a baby expresses his view of the product in no uncertain terms.

while consciously avoiding most of the stereotypes of an ex-pat englishman, there's a few british items I'll go out of my way to locate - I do love me some marmite.

There's a jar in my cupboard at home. I'll charge you $20 a lick.

Also, confidentially, the reason the Brits are so good at commercials is because there's no bloody money to make any full-length movies.

I started my wayward 20s trying to get into film production, running for commercial companies. The promise was always, "if you do a really great job here, you can go peel Ridley Scott's bananas for him for nothing."

So I left to go into newspapers. Where of course, there's money to be made by the bucket-load.

I can go one better - I've a jar of this at home http://www.coolhunting.com/archives/2007/02/marmite_guinnes.php

/I didn't expect to be involved in a yeast-extract based d*ck measuring contest today. Funny how things work out.

As someone named after the penis in Judie Bloom's Forever, I'd expect you'd be used to it. But you're right, you out-inch me with the Guinness Marmite! How does it taste? Have you tried making gravy with it? Do tell, do tell...

Oh man, Marmite is delicious. I got 2 big jars when I was home last Xmas. Soon as I got back here one English friend immediately snapped a jar from me. I've taken a couple of American friends home in the past, one loved Marmite the other hated it. She also hated cricket. They both loved the beer though.

Anyone know where to get some of the good stuff* without being overcharged in this town?
