Bikes When Graffiti is Put to Good Use

Posted by Amy J. Ruiz on Tue, Nov 13 at 1:29 PM

I rode past this yesterday, but didn’t have a camera on me. Thankfully, Jonathan Maus at BikePortland.org is always on top of things:

In reality, the stencil—of Brett Jarolimek, the cyclist killed at Interstate and Greeley on October 22, when a garbage truck took a right turn across the bike lane Jarolimek was in—is life sized, and positioned perfectly. It looks as if someone is riding out of the wall. Go pay homage—to Jarolimek, and this artist’s skill—before the city has a graffiti-freakout and “cleans it up.”

that really needs to stay.

I have already filed a complaint with the city and it will be painted over asap! You bike nazi's will NOT always get your way!

wait, are you serious? nazi?
some plant trees, some place crosses with flowers, some place plaques - its a beautifully executed piece and a wonderful memorial!

I generally don't go in for the flame war but . . .

Not for Long, you are either one of two things;
Insane or a complete asshole.
Actually, upon second thought, you're probably both.

I hope the garbage truck driver has to drive by this every day. Forever.

We are asking for it to be designated as a mural to protect it.
