TV Best Simpsons Episode EVER?

Posted by Wm. Steven Humphrey on Thu, Dec 20 at 11:20 AM

DEAR READERS: It has been an honor to have been chosen by local Fox affiliate PDX 49 to choose (and introduce) my favorite episode of The Simpsons, which they will run this coming February. However, I do have a quandary… WHICH ONE TO CHOOSE?! Here are my top choices so far (and in no particular order):
Marge vs. the Monorail (a great parody of The Music Man with Leonard Nimoy and written by Conan O’Brien).
Cape Feare (another great parody, this time of Scorsese’s movie, starring Sideshow Bob stepping on a rake).
Last Exit to Springfield (where Homer starts a union, and Grandpa utters the classic line, “We wore onions on our belts… which was the fashion of the time.”).
The Itchy, Scratchy, and Poochie Show (Homer provides the voice for Itchy and Scratchy’s EXTREME new sidekick.)
Homer’s Phobia (Homer goes gay, saying, “I like my beer cold, my TV loud, and my homosexuals Fa-LAAAMING!”).

AUGGGHHH!! I CAN’T DECIDE! Please help muddy my decision making process by suggesting your fave episodes below!

Comments

The ep. where Homer becomes an astronaut: "Wow... former president James Taylor!"

Two words... Fred Grimes

Ooh I second that!
"Do you mind if I call you Grimey?"
"Yes I do"
"Okay Grimey!"

I also like the Homer Phobia episode.

Second the monorail (monorail! monorail!) and "average-naut" episodes. I'm also partial to the Australia one.

The episode where they go to NYC and Homer is standing between the Twin Towers eating a (sp) Crabcalash!

wait wait wait. it was Frank Grimes. kinda bizarre, but the same mistake was made in this forum here: (2 words.. Fred Grimes)
my fave btw was "The Last Tap Dance in Springfield" (which is also the same one when Bart and Millhouse get locked in the mall). "Didn't you ever go to camp? The old vitamin barn." and the classic "And these are gummi worms! Gummi!"

Tomacco! I love it when the nicotine-addicted farm animals storm the house for the last tomacco plant.

I have always had trouble choosing between "Last Exit" and "Homer the Heretic"("Moe is their leader").

Oh, I love the Tomacco one as well. But I think my favorite is the one where Homer goes back to college.

Oh, I love the Tomacco one as well. But I think my favorite is the one where Homer goes back to college.

I liked the one where Burns wanted to make a coat out of dogs. Very obscure, but if you're old enough you would recognize the musical number about his "gorilla chest vest" as being a take off from Dr. Seuss' movie "The five thousand fingers of Dr. Terwilliker". Hans Conried getting dressed up before his conducting debut at the big piano.

The monorail episode was great too.

How about when Homer goes to clown college?

"Yes sir, Mr. Billboard!"

Dave (@11), the obvious reference for the "See My Vest" song was Disney's Beauty and the Beast song, "Be Our Guest" -- the characters from that animated film even make a quick appearance in the Simpsons episode. But yes, "See my loafers / Former gophers / It was that or kill my chauffeurs" makes me laugh, as does the repeated "Rory Calhoun" joke.

But your mention of The 5000 Fingers of Dr. T does explain a sample on one of my Man or Astroman? albums, I think.

Rock me, Dr. Zaius!
The one where Smithers leaves the company to produce the musical of Planet of the Apes.

The monorail episode is the BEST!

The James Bond parody episode where Homer goes to work for Hank Scorpio...

Burns' Bear, the parody of Citizen Kane, is probably my favorite. I also like the episode with Johnny Cash as Homer's spirit guide, the space coyote.

Wrong wrong wrong. It is either the grease episode (where Homer and Bart try to steal Willy's retirement grease; "You're from Upper Kilt Town? I'm from Upper Kilt Town!"). Or, the one where Homer and Abe sell the love potion.

Mr Burns Casino. I submit the following:

-Bart opens the treehouse casino
-Robert Goulet sings 'Jingle Bells, Batman Smells' in said treehouse casino
-Homer the blackjack dealer
-Marge addicted to gambling
-The foreshadowing (and explanation) of the eventual Siegfried and Roy tiger attack.
-Mr Burns does his best Howard Hughes
-The.Spruce.Moose
-Lisa's 'Floreda' costume
-"I'm Idaho!!" - Ralph Wiggum

Holy shit, it's my dream post!

Smithers leaving the company to produce a musical? Maybe in Nirvana, but not here sir!

Anyhoo, I've always been partial to the one where Sideshow Bob gets the A-bomb at the air show. Includes such classic lines as "free and easy lis', there's nothing like an unfinished basement for pure comfort!", "We searched the entire base and only found PORNO, PORNO, PORNO! Hey Hey, this is my kind of meeting!" and "This elevator only goes down...and someone made an awful mess down there." It also has the cameos by Urkel and Dr. Who. Genius, I say!

I also like "You Only Move Twice" where he gets the job with Hank Scorpio. "Sir, do you know where I can get some business hammocks?"

And yes, the Monorail, Astronaut, and Homer's Phobia would be in my top 10.

The episode where Homer runs for - and wins - the post of Garbage Commissioner ("Trash of the Titans").

Homer: Dogs are crapping in our house and we're picking it up! Did we lose a war? That's not America, that's not even Mexico!

No Disgrace Like Home, Season One

In addition to a great scene where the family self-administers shock therapy, there is this quintessential Simpsonian exchange:

Marge: Do you think we should leave the kids unsupervised?
Mother: You're right. [turns on the TV]

The problem is you can hardly judge the episodes, so the real question should be, what is Ralph Wiggam's greatest line? I vote for "She looks like mommy after her box of wine!"

Some Guy - The grease episode is great, as it has one of the greatest lines ever: "Here comes the grease ball!"

The Simpsons - National Treasure!

Hmmm...best Wiggum line. Either:

"That's where I saw the Leprechaun. He tells me to burn things!"

or

"Then, the doctor told me that BOTH my eyes were lazy! And that's why it was the best summer ever!"

SuperNintendo Chalmers also cracks me up

it tastes like burning

I named a bird Bitey.

and

Lisa the veggie is a close second. "liiiisssaaaa"

Best Ralph quote: "Me fail English? That's unpossible!"

Best episode: "Summer of 4'2" - where the family goes on vacation, Lisa becomes a cool kid, Bart becomes jealous, and Homer blows up the Flanders' beach house sink with illegal fireworks...

Why has no one nominated "I bent my wookie?" and "When I grow up I'm going to bovine university"

Say it again? Monorail!

Any of your top 5 are totally credible-a couple of mine...

The one where they go to Itchy and Scratchyland-"we are out of 'Bort' license plates, repeat we need more 'Bort' license plates!"

"Attention, Marge Simpson, we have also arrested your older, balder, fatter, son."

The one where we see the origin of Ned Flanders-where he has the radical therapy that involves a year of contious spanking

The astronaut one-if for no other reason than homer's fable about meeting mr T at the mall

The Duff Gardens episode

Frank Grimes!!!

Okay I'll stop now

My friend wanted to make sure his favorites are included:

The Springfield Film Festival (Barney's movie has heart, but football in the groin has a football in the groin!)

and

Who Shot Mr. Burns (Hey Homer, us hotheads is gonna go tear down Burn's sun blocker. Wanna come? Sure, I'm sick of these damn rickets!; Ooh, you're the bees knees baby!)

I'd also like to point out that any of the Holloween episodes with Kang and Kodos are freaking sweet.

Wait, no one mentioned "22 Short Films About Springfield"?

Memorable moments:

- "That monkey is going to pay."

- "You may purchase this charming Hamburglar adventure. A child has already solved the jumble using crayon. The answer is fries."

- "Do they have 'Krusty Partially Gelagnated Non Dairy Gum Based Beverages'?"

Hooray for monkey and/or fast-food franchise-related humor.

You all have it wrong. I think I've seen every episode about a million times.
The best episode EVER is the one called "20 short stories about Springfield." or something like that.

edit- that guy above me is with me. Congrats.
