Sen. Hillary Clinton’s Iowa poll numbers are uncomfortably close Sen. Barack Obama’s, so she “mounted a new, more aggressive attack against Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) on Sunday, raising direct questions about his character, challenging his integrity and forecasting a sharp debate over those subjects in the days ahead.” Meanwhile, Obama “called the new effort a sign of desperation.”

“New gay allegations” about Sen. Larry Craig claim that he had “homosexual encounters with four men dating back to the 1980s,” and another four unnamed men. Craig still says he’s not gay.

Sudan pardons the teacher who let her students name a teddy bear Muhammad. The teacher’s conviction for insulting Islam “inflamed passions among many Sudanese, some of whom called for her execution.”

Will homeowners who overstretched themselves for subprime mortgages get an interest rate rescue?

The “monster storm” snapped Seaside’s 700-year-old “nation’s largest” Sitka spruce in half.
