Election 2008 Sam Adams’ Campaign Refunds Porn Shop’s Contributions

Posted by Amy J. Ruiz on Fri, Dec 7 at 5:46 PM

Today, Sam Adams’ campaign refunded all $1000 that Patrick Lanagan and his company, Plaid Zebra—aka Eagle Portland and Fat Cobra Video—gave for his mayoral bid.

The refund was news to Lanagan when I spoke with him last night. “Regardless, I still support Sam,” he said. He also apologized if his donations created an awkward appearance for Adams’ campaign.

We’ve got a call in to the campaign, too.

Comments

why return the money? lanegan is a local businessperson just like any other. neither selling porn nor owning a bear bar is illegal.

Respectable politicians only accept donations from respectable organizations like big corporate developers, the Portland Business Alliance, or the police officers union.

You gotta admit Pat has a flair for creative low-budget self-promotion – he put $1000 down, got some publicity for his businesses, and then got his money back. Well played.

Seems like the Adams campaign was caught between a rock and a hard....

never mind.
