Politics Statewide Protests Against Senator Gordon Smith

Posted by Amy J. Ruiz on Mon, Dec 3 at 11:36 AM

This Wednesday afternoon, from 11:30 to 12:30, there will be protests outside of Sen. Gordon Smith’s five Oregon offices. Why?

From the Democratic Party of Oregon:

It’s time to hold Gordon Smith accountable.

For not being honest on the Iraq War.

For saying anything to get elected.

SMITH CAN’T BE TRUSTED ON IRAQ

One year ago, after the landslide 2006 elections, after polls showed Americans no longer supported Republicans nor the Iraq War, only then did Smith say he opposed the war.

Smith stood loyally by President Bush for years. He sent him blank check after blank check for the Iraq War. Now that it’s election season he wants to fool Oregonians into forgetting about his record. We won’t be fooled by a political opportunist who can’t be trusted to stand up for Oregon when it counts.

In fact, Smith can’t even trust Smith on the Iraq War. Even after his December 2006 speech, he’s voted four times in 2007 to keep troops in Iraq and prolong the war. In their February 10, 2007 editorial, The Oregonian even said he has been “here, there, everywhere” on the war.

And his own supporters have said they are concerned that Smith “…doesn’t really stand for anything other than his own re-election.”

In Portland, the protest is going down at Smith’s downtown office: One World Trade Center, 121 SW Salmon Street. There will be concurrent protests in Eugene, Medford, Pendleton and Bend.

Comments

We start holding protests against politicians for saying anything to get elected there won't be time for much of anything else.

Wait a minute. I thought the politicians worked for us? Shouldn't we hold them accountable? Also, is he still having voters arrested for trespassing when they try to visit his office?

Had to be on finals week, would have been fun.
