Posted by Ezra Caraeff on Wed, Dec 19 at 5:25 PM

In this week’s paper, we wrote a lot about our Top Five Albums of 2007. We covered it here, here, and here as well.

But enough about us, what do you think? Dearest readers, what albums made your Top Five of 2007? Were you like the local musicians who seemed to prefer the trifecta of M.I.A., Menomena and Spoon? Or was it something else?

Comments

Liars -- Liars
Kevin Drew -- Spirit If...
Picastro -- Whore Luck
Bill Callahan -- Woke on a Whaleheart
3 Inches of Blood -- Fire Up the Blades

band of horses - cease to begin

Okkervil River - The Stage Names
LCD Soundsystem - Sound of Silver
Beirut - The Flying Club Cup

Can we have a top 5 disappointment list because I want to nominate Rilo Kiley.

I haven't been listing to enough new music to put together a worth-while list, but We Belong to the Staggering Evening is easily the best thing I've heard all year.

*listening

I probably shouldn't be typing when blasting said album.

1. Lupe Fiasco - The Cool
2. Sharon Jones & the Dap Kings - 100 Days, 100 Nights
3. Gogol Bordello - Super Taranta!
4. Pete Philly and Perquisite - Mystery Repeats
5. UGK - Underground Kingz

1. Dolorean - You Can't Win
2. Radiohead - In Rainbows
3. Spoon - Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga
4. Of Montreal - Hissing Fauna, Are You The Destroyer?
5. The Clientele - God Save The Clientele

Jesus, for a second there I thought Curt from Magic Marker's top five was my top five:
1. Jens Lekman - Night Falls Over Kortedala
2. Electrelane - No Shouts, No Calls
3. A Sunny Day in Glasgow - Scribble Mural Comic Journal
4. Okkervil River - The Stage Names
5. The Twilight Sad - Fourteen Autumns and Fifteen Winters

There were no good albums released in 2007.

Can't remember it all:

Beyond the Wizards Sleeve "George"
Panda Bear "Person Pitch"
Burial "Untrue"
Charlotte Gainsbourg "5:55"
RVNG Of the NRDS Vol.2 "Betty Botox-Voodoo 1"

how pretentious.

Matt from Denver, what are you doing here? Is Slog down or something?

Nothing. This is a awful year for music.

I can't even remember if Red Gone Wild came out this year or last. I think it was this year. That was the only thing worth a shit. Redman 4 lief.

1. Band of Horses - "Cease to Begin"
2. Josh Ritter - "Historical Conquests"
3. Blitzen Trapper - "Wild Mtn. Nation"
4. The National - "Boxer"
5. (tie) Black Moth Super Rainbow - "Dandelion Gum" and Future Clouds & Radar - s/t

Ha! That's six!

Matt and Jay - both of you's are either deaf, crazy, or not paying attention.

I guess Aaron Beam is the only person indie rock enough to make your printed list who actually listens to heavy metal.

No, Aaron Beam was the only one who emailed us back with his list.

1. Robyn Hitchcock and the Venus 3- "Ole Tarantula"
2. The Shins- "Wincing The Night Away"
3. Crowded House- "Time On Earth"
4. Sister Vanilla- "Little Pop Rock"
5. Black Rebel Motorcycle Club- "Baby 81"

And two reissues:
Shack- "Time Machine"
Warren Zevon- "Stand In The Fire"

Close but no cigar to Wilco, Of Montreal, Richard Hawley, and the Super Furry Animals.

menomena - F&F
blitzen trapper - wild mountain nation
lifesavas - gutterfly
of montreal - hissing fauna...
bettye lavette - scene of the crime

Patrick Watson -Close to Paradise
The Shins -Wincing the Night Away
Animal Collective -Strawberry Jam
Menomena -Friend and Foe
The Besnard Lakes -Are the Dark Horse

Jason Isbell - Sirens of The Ditch
Avett Bros - Emotionalism
Okkervil River - Stage Names
Panda Bear - Person Pitch
Handsome Furs - Plague Park

UGK- Underground Kingz
Menomena - Friend and Foe
MIA- Kala
Devin the Dude- Waitin to Inhale
Big Business - Here Comes the Waterworks

1. Bridging the Distance, Various Artists
2. Neon Bible, Arcade Fire
3. The Light Divides, Winterpills
4. Friend and Foe, Menomena
5. Hair Guitar, Copy

This year was about listening to Sleep - Dopesmoker, Catheter, Superbad, Redman, and Supertramp.

99.9% of new indie rock is fucking garbage. REM, The Pixies, and Sonic Youth rule. I get it.

Hella-There's No 666 In Outer Space
Jarvis Cocker-Jarvis
Joanna Newsome-Ys (technically 11/06, but I didn't get it until after Jan. 1st, so for me, it's from 2007)

Big Business - Here Comes the Waterworks

then, you know, 4 other albums....
