Election 2008 Amanda Fritz’ Public Campaign Finance Contributions Verified

Posted by Amy J. Ruiz on Wed, Jan 9 at 9:30 AM

We’ve got a profile of city council candidate Amanda Fritz in the paper due out later today, but there’s already an update: Fritz heard from the Auditor’s office that 1001 of the $5 contributions and accompanying contributor forms are A-OK, putting her over the required number to qualify for $150,000 in public funds.

She says she has “about 40 more to submit for a cushion (and because we don’t want to send them back), and will give those in with the Request for Certification letter” some time today. Once she submits that request, the Auditor has 10 days to either certify her or not. If she’s certified, she’ll get the check short thereafter.

Fritz is the first candidate this year to turn in 1000 signatures and contributions, and looks like she’ll be the first to pick up the funds. The other candidates aiming for public financing have until the 31st to turn in the required number.

Comments

Never one to split hairs over actual facts and hassle with easily verifiable information, Srenee Mitchell seems to think it takes 1,500 sigs to qualify for council seat races (as opposed to mayoral).

The fact that Amanda has accomplished this task not once, but twice, is not only a testimony to her popularity but also to her energy, determination and work ethic. She's going to be a great city commissioner.

I'd be able to gather signatures just as fast too if I was married to a wealthy doctor and only worked two days a week.
