News Cop Review Review Delayed

Posted by Matt Davis on Mon, Jan 14 at 1:59 PM

A hotly anticipated report on the state of Portland’s Independent Police Review due tomorrow has been delayed until next week. The report, compiled by consultant Eileen Luna-Firebaugh is based on community testimony and the experiences of those who have been through the IPR process. It is expected to conclude that the IPR has a trust gap to bridge with Portlanders.lunafireb33augh.jpg

“We decided to give her an extension until next week because nobody is in the mayor’s office to read the report,” says the Mayor’s spokesman, Kyle Chisek—the mayor has moved his office to Jefferson High School this week, evidently in an effort to avoid doing any bookwork.

The report will now be available to the public some time next week, says Chisek, and Luna-Firebaugh will formally present it to council on February 20th or 21st Correction: February 28th, amended by mayor’s office Jan 15th. Luna-Firebaugh has not returned calls for comment on the report’s likely contents over recent days, although Chisek speculated that it is “pretty close” to being finished, “if not done.”

Council will accept the report in February, then hold a work session in March to decide what policy changes are needed, if any, based on its findings.

Wait, what? Major Tom "moved" his office to Jefferson in order to show kids how the Mayor's office works, but didn't actually take any of the work of the Mayor's office with him?

Nevermind. It's perfectly consistent for him. Carry on.

I know: It's as if he's operating in a parallel world, these days. One where people are so fed up with him that they just shrug and move on.

Oh, hang on. I think I'm in that parallel world, personally.

HELP!

Why was Santa at that meeting? Did his lap feel good?

Luna-Firebaugh introduced him as "her husband." But suddenly, the reasons for the Christmas delay are clear.
