« The Return of American Gladiators. | Main | There Will Be Blood Opens This Weekend »
Are you excited about Rebooting Democracy starting this Friday, yet? I am. I’m pissing myself. Right here, right now. There it goes…a little trickle of pee, down my leg, showing how excited I am. ABOUT REBOOTING DEMOCRACY. Why? Because not only is The Bus Projects conference a weekend-long opportunity to network your socks off, featuring workshops, trainings, issue panels, big name speakers and of course, did I already mention, the chance to network your socks off? It is ALSO going to be M.C’d by The Stranger’s very own sex-ually pol-it-ic-al Monsieur DANIEL SAUVAGE:

SAVAGE: Show up to hear him speak, or just to oggle his pecs. Either way he’s a winner…
I’m going to be there because Mr.Savage makes me feel just a teensy bit gay. And there’s nothing wrong with that. But if you’re political at all, whether youre new to Oregon or looking to get re-elected, you should, frankly, be here for the sake of your career. And If the $95 3-day student pass sounds pricey to you, the organizers say they’ve got lots of scholarships available to get you in. In other words, if you’re broke, call ‘em. If not, call ‘em anyway, and try pretending! I don’t care how you get there, just get there if you can. Or, just come for the party:
POLITIPALOOZA: IT WILL GIVE YOU AN ELECTION!!!
Once again: It’s local. It’s everybody who’s anybody in Portland politics. It’s a chance to get off your lazy hipster ass and get involved in 2008, a pivotal fucking year in politics not just here, but everywhere. Why the hell wouldn’t you want to come on down? You don’t know, do you?! You’ve got nothingam I right? So: Come.
It's onomatopoeic for how excited I am.
This is gonna be rad.
Ahh, Dan Savage: the guy who vehemently supported the invasion of Iraq. How very progressive.
Ahh, Dan Savage: the guy who vehemently supported the invasion of Iraq.
He, along with 62-75% of Americans (depending on which poll you look at) supported the invasion. Savage's reasons were about liberating the Iraqis from Hussein. But he realized he was wrong, and changed his opinion... pretty progressive, if you ask me.
Who cares if he's a flip-flopper. The PECS, people. The PECS.
Pfff... forget the who's who of Portland politics, this is the who's who of Oregon politics. If you call yourself progressive, then this is the conference for you!
Plus, the PECS! Who can deny the PECS? Ohh yeah, and the smile.
Oh, so the fact that a lot of other people supported the invasion makes it ok? Sorry, but some things are unforgivable. Dan Savage, Dick Cheney, George Bush, and every other person who supported or took part in the war will smoke rat turds in hell for eternity, surrounded by the screams of all the dead Iraqis he helped murder.
Dan Savage, Dick Cheney, George Bush, and every other person who supported or took part in the war will smoke rat turds in hell for eternity, surrounded by the screams of all the dead Iraqis he helped murder.
So when 75% of the American people "smoke rat turds in hell for eternity," is that going to be kind of like the Rapture?
And does that mean that Iwho did oppose the war from the get go, and had plenty of arguments with Dan about itwill be stuck here on earth with all the people who went to the peace marches? THAT sounds like hell to mecondemned to a purgatory of marching and chanting hey hey, ho ho.
Now you've assumed I'm a 'peace marcher'. No, there are many people who opposed the war from the comfort of their living rooms. I appreciate your desire to protect Dan, but as a public figure who vocally supported george bush's war, he will always bear some responsibility. You don't get off the hook simply by 'changing your mind' when you supported the unjustified killing of hundreds of thousands of people. And I will never read/support/have anything to do with anyone so abysmally stupid to have bought into the lie, even for a minute.
is this all ages?
Well done, Ed. You're exhibiting the exact same intractableness that Bush and Cheney, et al, exhibit, and is the real cause of the situation we find ourselves in. The real problem with the Bush administration isn't individual policies, it's arrogance. Your position is wholly arrogant.
People like Savage, who may have been wrong, but has changed his mind, should be celebrated. If we can't allow people (PARTICULARLY public figures) to come around to the right position, what hope to we have? Once you've taken a bad position, you're damned forever? Should we disallow public figures from finally embracing equal rights for gays and lesbians, too? Sorry, buddy, you used to be against me, so I will not accept your support, EVER. Good luck with that.
I reserve the right to form opinions, to adhere to them stridently, and express them in a peaceful manner. I have nothing more to say on the subject. Dan and his conscience can deal with the human consequences of his inability to think critically.
Yes, the event is all ages.
