It’s Burns Night tonight. Does anybody know where I can buy a haggis in Portland?
HAGGIS: Hotter than your momma, and more appetizing…
I think you can get it frozen at the Scottish shop on 38th-ish and Powell. Mmmmm...freezer burn.
Ok, don't make fun of me, but I had Haggis once on a dare and, well, it wasn't that bad. Really. It's stuffed with oatmeal and imagine an oddly seasoned meaty stovetop stuffing and well you have the idea. The stomach part of the sheep is like a little container just to hold the stuffing.
Still, not anything I'd be proud to have as my country's national dish...
Alison: You can get Haggis through Viande Meats. I think you have to order it, though...
Sorry, Matt - I misspelled your name above.
In Scotland, you can buy vegetarian haggis. I don't really get it, honestly -- must be some strong national pride to make you want to make a meatless version of that dish, but whatever. (I've also seen soy escargot, and was equally baffled.)
That said, I agree with CBF (@3) -- it's not at all that weird, except when you think about what you're eating.

I'd try the Rose and Thistle, but I still won't try haggis. Enjoy though.
