Let’s hope it continues in this vein. By the way, since my resolutions didn’t contain any mention of gambling, I am now taking $10 bets from anybody willing to show up at the Mercury with the cash, on Barack being president by the end of the year. If you’re willing to bet against it, I’ll take your money.
Since I have a rather bad percentage of winning in any gambling situations and would like to see it happen--I will take that bet to push the karma his way.
i don't think anybody realizes how badly the subtle, and not so subtle, racism is going to be flying at osama...err... obama by the time next fall rolls around.
i'm not saying he can't win it despite what he's got coming, but it's gonna be tough... really tough.
we haven't hit rock bottom yet.
you wanna talk about gambling, matt? i'd wager that pretty much every wingnut in this country will be openly accusing him of being an al-qaida operative, and that the repubican nominee will either be saying nothing about his party's behavior, or actually echoing it in that shitty, slithery 'you know, it makes you wonder' type of way that politicians are famous for.
Damn, Martin is too quick. I was going to ask how many $10 bets I could make?
And I think lyle is right, but I think that's all the more reason to look forward to Obama as our nominee. I hope the racism becomes too obvious to plausibly deny. America will have to accept the fact that racism really is alive and well here.
But I think Obama would win in the general anyway. I think the reason racism tends to be subtly employed is because it offends people when it's overt.
"Actually it will be:
Ron Paul / Dennis Kucinich VP"
I wish, but we both know this can never be. sigh....
Presidential candidates, all of them, pretty much suck this go-around. Thankfully if Romney or Huckabee are elected by the repubs I think the dems have a fighting chance, which is what I assume this "bet" is all about...
I'll take Kucinich/Paul- VP
or Kucinich/Richardson- VP
or just Kucinich/Kucinich
or Kucinich/Walters
That's a sucker's bet on your part.
I'll bet you $100 at 10:1 odds that George Bush is President at the end of this year.
Do you not understand how these things work?
Like I say, anybody shows up at the Merc with the cash, I'll take their bet.
You're wrong, Matt, and this is why:
Americans only vote in presidents with American names -- God Bless America, so no one named Barak Obama, or Rudy Guiliani, for that matter, is going to be president. If we were sophisticated enough to vote in a woman, Hilary Clinton could win it with a name like that, although Hilary sounds a a little whitebread.
The only democrats with a chance to become president are John Edwards and B ill Richardson. Joe Biden is ok, and maybe Chris Dodd, but Kucinich is out. And no one named Mit (what's a fucking Mit, anyway?) Romney is going to be president.
Our presidents are named Bill Clinton, Jimmy Carter, George Washington, John Adams, Tom Jefferson, Abe Lincoln, Richard Nixon. Lydnon Johnson was pushing it, but a good solid last name like Johnson pulled it out. Roosevelt was pushin it, too, but with names like Ted and Frank, who could loose. Do you really think we'd have a president named Adalaid Stevenson? Jeez, I can't even remember how to spell it right now.
So that's my theory, Matt. And my prediction is John Edwards will be our next president and I predict we'll know that by the end of the year. And if we don't know that by the end of the year, I'll be happy to give you 10 bucks.

Do you mean by 1/20/09, or do you really mean by 12/31/08? Cuz I'll take that bet.
