Saw this little tidbit over on PDX pipeline:
Hawthorne Fred Meyer eyes LEED certificationPOSTED: 06:00 AM PST Monday, January 7, 2008
BY DJC STAFFThe Fred Meyer store on Southeast Hawthorne Boulevard Thursday became the first in the retail company chain to apply for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design certification under the U.S. Green Building Council’s program.
The existing store at 3805 S.E. Hawthorne Blvd. will be renovated by MulvannyG2 Architecture to meet the LEED standards.
The renovation is expected to be complete in early 2009.
And speaking of LEEDS certified, has anyone been to Rocket lately? Leather Storrs’ restaurant at the top of that bright-red building on East Burnside opened big, with its playful menu and rooftop gardens, but never quite lived up to the hype that surrounded its opening. I got a somewhat humbled press release a while back about how they had toned down the menu’s experimentation and tweaked their staffing, presumably in response to their generally tepid reception from bloggers and local media. Haven’t been back myself, but it sounds like it might be worth another shot—maybe something akin to ten01’s transformation has taken place?
Aaron,
You are such a hater that it's funny. I'm glad that you keep up with me so well though.
best, Julian
Uh, Julian? It's not always about you. I would've thought it just as goofy if they'd linked to my Monday post about it instead of the DJC.
Hey Aaron - is that an actual site you have there or just crap repurposed around Adsense?
I personally think it's the latter...
Hmmm,
I guess I misinterpreted because of your previous blogging (thanks for the support again) about me. Hope you got some hits and some of that adsense cash!
I'll bow out now as I can't beat a pro at his own game.
So was this worded carefully to exclude:
REI—Portland
Our new store location features a state-of-the-art, eco-conscious design and recently became the first retail store in the country to win a LEED® Gold Award from the United States Green Building Council.
"...presumably in response to their generally tepid reception from bloggers and local media."
Um, yeah, that or their sales weren't meeting expectations. The coverage of the establishment is only a means to an end, after all.
