In addition to tomorrow’s memorial service for Officer Mark Zylawy, the Albina Ministerial Alliance is planning a march tonight at 5pm, in his memory:
A Life of Celebration: March and Vigil to honor Police Officer Mark ZylawyOn Thursday, January 31st, 2008, Northeast Portland community members and colleagues will gather at the Mallory Maple Community Center (corner of N. E. Failing Street and Garfield Avenue) for a march and prayer vigil to commemorate the life and indelible contributions of Portland Police Officer Mark Zylawy.
The pubic is invited to join the Zylawy family, community and civic leaders along with a host friends to honor the man who gave so much to others.
The march will begin at 5:00 p.m., with a processional of celebrants including a “riderless horse”, mounted police, civic leaders and friends. The march will conclude with a prayer vigil at 5:45 p.m. at the Northeast Precinct, 449 N.E. Emerson Street, where Officer Zylawy served most of his 17 years in law enforcement.
Officer Zylawy was tragically killed on Interstate 5 early Sunday morning on his way to work. He leaves a wife and four children.
