Fashion Natalie Portman’s (Vegan) Shoes

Posted by Marjorie Skinner on Thu, Jan 3 at 11:23 AM

I am no fan of celebrity “designers”—at best I think it’s a tackily transparent window into people’s desperation to emulate Hollywood and pop stars, and at worst I think it does a disservice to the actual designers and makers who deserve respect for learning and practice of real skills. Would you want J.Lo to “design” your next angioplasty? I bet some people would.

Anyhow, that being said, the forthcoming collaboration between Natalie Portman and Té Casan is noteworthy because it is vegan. Given how difficult it is to find hot vegan shoes that aren’t cheap (and/or cheap-looking) (Stella McCartney’s designs being the most obvious exception), anytime there’s a half-decent new line of vegan shoes on the market, people need to know. Pre-ordering of the line starts on the 15th of this month—until then, all we can peep at are the red MJ heels Portman sports on the site.

Wouldn't choosing veganism lead one away from silly, sexist establishment trappings like miniskirts and heels? Not for today's wave of fairweather vegan converts, I suppose-- don't eat a piece of meat, just ask others to treat you like one.

Oh, the irony! Vapid celebs like Portman do wonders to undermine these social convictions. Just like Leonardo DiCaprio's Environment For Dummies movie, or Woody Harrelson's latest help iPhone caddy.

ahem. make that a HEMP iPhone caddy.

vegans can't be sexist? WTF?

damn hippies.

i support her endeavor so much, whenever i imagine her, she will only be wearing her shiny red vegan pumps.

I would hit that so hard that whoever pulled me out would be named King of England.

You only live once, why not live healthy and stylish! I think Natalie Portman's the hottest actress/Vegan I Have ever seen! Peace~Diego

Roguespierre is right! Vegans are supposed to be joyless and frumpy!

If you're a woman, vegan shoes are easy to find. If you're a man, decent looking everyday vegan shoes are impossible to find at any price/quality--unless you're that fucking Ian guy from High Fidelity.

And Roguespierre--all I can say as a 12-year blackbelt vegan is, thank god the majority of vegans I've met in this town have more of a sense of humor about themselves and less sexual uptightness than you. If the lady doesn't want to look and feel like your frumpy Pentecostal-cum-hippie ideal--I say good for her.

Stylish women's vegan shoes that Natalie herself wore in 2006 can be seen here. www.charmoneshoes.com. See "Press."

I'm happy Natalie Portman can find fashionable vegan shoes, really I am. But why the fuck can't I find decent vegetarian food in an airport? It's like they have you trapped like cattle and are trying to force you to eat cattle. Ooh look a muffin! my favorite,...

Here's a great site for AFFORDABLE and trendy vegan shoes, boots and more! Stylish shouldn't have you cost you your first borne!
