As we reported in ‘07, there’s a group that would like to rename 42nd Avenue for Douglas Adams. They vowed to follow the city process. And today, they announced that they’ve filed the official application, and picked up petitions.
Hello friends and supporters. Very silent here at Rename42nd.org lately. We are sorry about that. Trust me; we have in no way abandoned our effort to rename NE 42nd Avenue into Douglas Adams Boulevard. We just had the poor timing of starting a highly bureaucratic effort in the middle of the holidays. Holidays when civil servants take extra time off. However, that time has passed and we have great news! (No, that that great, but close).
After much research and waiting for the appropriate workers to return to their desks, the time has come. Rename42nd.org just turned in the paperwork to start the real process to rename NE 42nd Avenue into Douglas Adams Boulevard. We have official petition forms and the information we need to move forward with our efforts.
As it stands now, we have 180 days to gather a minimum of 2,500 signatures from citizens living within the Portland city limits and are registered voters. Although no official word from the Portland Department of Transportation, we will probably need the $1,000 to cover the printing costs of the flyers PDOT will send out to people living on NE 42nd Avenue.
This is getting ridiculous.
Ridiculous maybe...but now it won't be used as a political football for 2008...a truly Machiavellian idea.
