Music Shinsgate ‘08: Marty Crandall NOT Charged!

Mercury exclusive! (Take that Pitchfork!)

I just got off the phone with Diane Richardson of Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office, who commented on last week’s arrest of Shins’ keyboardist Marty Crandall on domestic violence charges, along with his girlfriend, Elyse Sewell, who after making bail, blogged about the entire incident.

According to Richardson, “Both defendants have not been charged. The case was rejected due insufficient evidence.”

And that’s that, right?

Sewell is free to blog her heart out.
Marty Crandall is free to play shows.

Right?

Good work Ezra. Way to make Pitchfork your bitch.

Read her past livejournal entries, she's been hitting the juice hard & often this season. Takes two to tango....

Shorter Diane Richardson: "That chick is batshit crazy. She blogs on LiveJournal for godsakes."

And since it probably needs mentioning, this is the final comment from Sewell:

The D.A. has rejected the case against me. I am free. I wish the same outcome for Marty and have no intention of pursuing any further legal action. I would not wish entanglement in the widening gyre of the American legal system upon my worst enemy.

It was incredibly naive of me not to realize that my blog entry about this incident would become tabloid fodder. That was not my intention. I consider the small circle of people who frequent this LJ to be a support group; the much larger world of tabloid readers is certainly not. I will never speak of this again, nor malign Marty in this space. And tomorrow this'll be fishwrap.

Expect few updates to this journal in the next couple of weeks as I will be untangling the web of seven years of cohabitation with my ex-boyfriend, packing up my shit, and thickening up a plot to travel and work in more temperate climes.

Chip paper indeed. And what's all this knocking the tabloids?! We've just done her career a power of good. Ingratitude.

Seven Years?

I didn't realize it was that long. Who doesn't get bruises in seven years?

Now I'm convinced that those bruises were from her hitting him. A crazy, scrawny model? Now I've seen everything.

That chick looks hotter with the bruises yo!!

I think Marty and Elyse were a cute couple but I feel that she gave up a lot for him, It is hard to date a musician and modeling is a good way to compliment this sort of lifestyle. But clearly this relationship has been one of abuse, and I think it is a good idea to end it.
I feel bad for elyse, but I also think she might be struggling with some issues and is clearly way too thin and reeks of malnutrition, this can make you crazy eventually, I think she should go to med school and get her act together because modeling only lasts so long and she needs to find her passion. I wish them the best of luck and can totally relate to this incident.
