Music An Article About The Police Not Written By Matt Davis

Posted by Ezra Caraeff on Thu, Feb 14 at 8:13 AM

Finally, a post on this blog that involves the word “police,” yet does not contain the following terms:

- “Independent Police Review”
- ” Fried By Cop”
- “pseudo police action”
- ” Rent-A-Cop”

Instead, it’s about The Police, as in the greedy great reunited pop act that is finally coming to Portland!

Well, technically, it’s Ridgefield, WA, at the Amphitheater at Clark County on July 11th, but that is close enough. And not only will you get a few hours of Police hits—and tantric sex tips from Sting—but the opening act will be Elvis Costello and the Imposters.

Damn.

No word on when tickets go on sale, but it’s safe to assume they will not be cheap. Anytime a tour is sponsored by a credit card company (from the press release, “Presented by Citi®”), you know it’s going to cost you.

End Hits: Our tantric sex tips don’t come with a Ticketmaster convenience charge.

I'm still not sure how I feel about this. After watching the behind the music, I was prepared to live the rest of my life with the Police hating each other. It was sort of like having to pay taxes or cheeseburgers being awesome... That's just how things are.

well, these cheeseburgers need to pay their taxes, that's why they're going on a reunion tour. yes, the money. i can't remember who called them this, but it's the best by far:

second rate clash for the soccer mom

Ezra, have you ever searched for "yacht rock" on youtube? If you haven't seen it before, please consider it my Valentine's Day present to you.

also elvis costello has notoriously talked mass shit about sting and the police forever! bogus.

While once seeing the Police live would have been amazing...I've heard nothing but terrible reviews for this reunion show - way to much craptastic-Sting and no soul.

And Elvis...I'd want to see him in a much cozier venue, he's fantastic, but not an amphitheater kind of guy.

As in the internet show? Yeah, I love Yacht Rock. And this coming from a guy who almost got a Steely Dan tattoo.

I am TOTALLY going to attend this. I'll sell a minor organ if I have to.

Oh fuck these guys! There's just no way that I can shell out mad cash for a lame show. I'll bet they'll even do some kind of fucked up medley too. Damn, I hate medleys, they're just a good way to cheat good fans out of what they paid to hear.

They were awesome in the Secret Policeman's Other Ball, but this is just gonna' be a schitty Schting concert sponsored by a credit card company. Oh, and without those killer NY jazz musicians that used to cover up for him.

I saw them once years ago and it totally sucked. Some dumbass in the audience threw a flask of wine or something on the stage and they got pissed, decided to punish the entire crowd who paid good money to see them and huffily waked off the stage after playing all of a half and hour. Those geezers can bite me. I would like to see Elvis Costello though.

Elvis Costello would be awesome to see. He's not all pompous and he's got a lot to be proud of at this stage of his career. It's probably why they asked him, so they could seem to have some small shred of legitimacy. Doesn't work, does it?

I like Ezra's police articles better.

To show how credible and creative the writer of this article was, Ezra didn't even label The Police with the correct genre. The Police are reggae/rock/pop/jazz...period. The greatest most talented band of the 1980's have been on a world tour for almost a year and have been playing the shit out of any "indy, snyth-pop" bullshit that is on the airwaves today or playing in any shitty portland venue. How comical it is to simply pick on Sting and The Police for being old. Costello sucks compared to The Police, and was jealous of them for their sucess while he was left behind.
