Troops:
It is an honor to have been twice elected to be the Sheriff of Multnomah County. It is a privilege to be responsible for the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office and to serve with you.
As I near the end of my 34th year in law enforcement I have decided to retire. However, I am committed to the six month implementation period of the recently signed MOU and working with the Chair and Board to see Wapato opened by October. Therefore, I expect to retire prior to the end of the calendar year. For the rest of my time as your elected Sheriff, I will be in the office, working with you as I have before. Do not assume that this early notification means I am done or waiver in my commitment.
When I look back over these almost 6 years, what I know will stand out is your exceptional service, competency and integrity. But today, when balancing the effect of continually declining resources on our agency and public safety services and the political climate over the last five years, it is clear to me it is time to make the choice to retire. While it is an honor to be in the position I am, it has also been exhausting and has taken its toll on me personally.
I owe you tremendous appreciation and respect for your service to the citizens of this County. The citizens are lucky to have you.
Respectfully,
Sheriff Bernie Giusto
That's lame that he didn't just get fired like any other person. He'll draw a check until he leaves and gets to leave on his own accord.
Schting, I guess it's just another example of those entitlements you referred to earlier. Here is fine, upstanding(snarf, snarf) member of the community who got caught with his pants dow, literally and figuratively, and what does he get? Six more moths of paycheck and benefits. What do you want to bet it also affects how much pension he draws. Reality check time
I wonder how the cops feel about him? Embarrassed? Role model? Glad for the free cars and gas? Seems like they should want to bust someone like this.
Don't let the door hit ya on the way out BERNIE!
echoing "electric jimbo" I too say.."don't
let the door hit your lying a$$ as it slams
shut your tenue"...bye-bye Bernie!
I wish the young man that I voted for who was a write in candidate won. He seem amazingly well qualified and respected by the commnity. It is a shame we can't have him as our sheriff or the current Chief Rozie Sizer.
What was the at gentleman's name that so many people voted for and was endorsed byt eh Oregonian , the Willy Week and I think by the Mercury too? Where the heck is he now?

Mr Brown. You do not need to repeat yourself three times!!!!! I'm sure it was just a mistake, but try to limit posting the same message like that one 3 times!
I think you are talking about Paul Van Orden. He was the person who wisely predicted the whole Guisto Sheriff disaster and had the convictions to take him on in the election. I met him years ago at a neighborhood meeting. He is incredibly positive and a ball of energy for discussing City affairs.
I would ask why he is not out there running for City Council instead of the boring and scary prospect of Rebublicanesque Nick Fish.
