Film Happy Birthday, Molly Ringwald!

Posted by Wm. Steven Humphrey on Mon, Feb 18 at 2:12 PM

The Mercury wishes the happiest of birthdays to MOLLY RINGWALD (The Breakfast Club, Pretty in Pink, etc.) who turned 40-years-old today! Let’s take a look at Molly through the years…

Here’s Molly as we remember her best, as Claire Standish from The Breakfast Club

And here’s Molly as she looks today! (Not too shabby.)

And here’s a picture of me, dressing up as Molly for Halloween, 1986. (Though I never really needed an excuse to dress up like Molly Ringwald.)

I love you, Molly Ringwald!

In that unique way we dance around the fact that underage girls can be sexy in an innocent kind of way, I forget whether it was Siskel or Ebert who said (probably while reviewing 16 Candles or one of those Hughes movies she was in) something like "Isn't it strange that the most kissable-looking lips in Hollywood belong to a 15 year old girl." (That is a paraphrase.) And THEN...along comes Natalie Portman in The Professional. Yes, we need to keep our hands off underage girls, but girls don't suddenly become attractive on their 18th birthday. They know it, you know it, we ALL know it.

Ah, Molly Ringwald--how I love(d) her.

Sing with me now as you look at the photos: You take the good. You take the bad . . .

I had a major crush on Molly in high school. Even now, she's still a hot redhead (love those redheads!).
