Jim Middaugh is so roguish, says WW. (A designation that in turn earned the paper the distinction of “accelerat[ing] its long descent into irrelevance,” according to an email from a source yesterday.)
Why do they say Middaugh is rogue-esque? For failing to mention his current job title in the first incarnation of his current campaign website (his original website underwent a complete renovation).
Puh-lease. From the very beginning, Middaugh has positioned himself as the best person to carry on Sten’s legacy, thanks to his close working relationship with the outgoing commissioner—he’s Sten’s chief of staff.
In fact, in the third question we asked the candidates in that race—Middaugh’s second; he was swamped collecting $5 contributions when we ran the first one—Middaugh highlighted his relationship with Sten in the second damn paragraph. It popped up in my inbox on February 4.
Check it out:
The goal of Portland’s Ten Year Plan is to end chronic homelessness — to ensure that no one in our community remains homeless for years at a time. I believe we can and must end chronic homelessness. As commissioner I will fight to maintain Erik Sten’s legacy of success. As Erik’s chief of staff I know how much has been accomplished and what needs to be done to continue our success.
And that first question, when he wasn’t able to respond? I ripped info from his very first website. Here’s what it said, just days after he launched his campaign:
Jim Middaugh is City Commissioner Erik Sten’s chief of staff, giving him a unique perspective on how City Hall works — and how it can be improved.Jim’s work managing Commissioner Sten’s Schools, Families, Housing Initiative has given him an opportunity to work directly with the leadership of all of Portland’s public school districts to help ensure that the City of Portland does all it can to support our kids’ future. The initiative works to make sure that our city’s school neighborhoods remain affordable and attractive for families. And, it helps make sure that city investments in parks, housing and transportation benefit our schools. Jim also has helped Erik lead Portland’s 10-Year Plan to End Homelessness and the City of Portland’s Climate Action Plan.
Jim also has worked at Tri-Met, where he helped win funds for early light rail investments, and the Environmental Defense Fund, where he helped champion national campaigns to protect kids from lead poisoning and to end acid rain. And, he was co-chair of the Kerns Neighborhood Association.
Is that Nick Fish endorsement already written, WW?

Never mind the cover story about "internet addiction".

I nominate WW as next week's rogue of the week.
