This is a $20 “Cat Palm” from Ikea. The pot was $10. Your tips on keeping it alive would be most welcome. Thanks.catpalm.jpg

We have this, too!!!

Don't let the dog pee on it.

I don't even know if you have a dog.

Still, I stand by my advice.

talk to the plant. give it a name. feed it water regularly.

i did this with a ficus some ex gave me. it's been alive for nearly 3 years now. my now girlfriend hates it.

I'm going to call it "Bob the plant."

Nice work Billy Connolly.

Feed it fertilizer once a month and change the dirt once a year. Beer is not fertilizer.

You might want to fill the rest of the pot with soil -roots don't like air.

Water regularly don't let soil dry out between waterings.

Keep out of full sun.

Mist occasionally.

Use google for plant care tips.

susan (the ficus) likes beer, thank you.

I'm going to call it "Bob the plant."

You should name it Scott.

IKEA has pot for $10? I might have to check that place out after all.

Feed them swedish meatballs, brotha

Seriously, about the direct sun -- don't do it. I've seen palms with just the tips in direct sun, and just the dips died like they'd been cut by shears.

The grand majority of palms come out of the nursery with a bit of a fungal infection in the root ball. Standing stagnant water will encourage this fungus.

So, although you shouldn't let it dry completely out, don't let it stand in water for days either. It's a delicate balance... too much water and root rot will kill it quick.

It has a fungal infection on it's balls?

Don't go with Bob the plant. Call it "Robert Plant".
