TV American Idol Makes Me Hate America (and Love Michael Jackson)

Posted by Wm. Steven Humphrey on Wed, Mar 26 at 11:48 AM

We’re now into the final ten contestants on American Idol, which means a respectable amount of the bullshit is over, and we can get down to brass tacks. To sum up, this year’s Sanjaya and my personal fave is already gone, the uber-gay Danny Noriega. Still around? Another reason to be ashamed you live here, Oregon resident Kristy Lee Cook who is gearing up to be the Carrie Underwood of this competition. How do I know? Check out a few seconds of Kristy’s competent but gag-worthy rendition of Lee Greenwood’s “Proud to be an American” and decide for yourself: Is she tricking Americans into thinking she actually likes America, or is she just another Oregon hillbilly? (Remember, just watch a few seconds.)

GAG!

The rest of the evening was expectedly unmemorable and annoying… EXCEPT for David Cook’s rendition of Chris Cornell’s rendition of “Billie Jean” by Michael Jackson. Gotta admit it, that was pretty freaking awesome. (It’s a good idea to watch all of this.)

Your opinion on anything American Idol-related is welcome—just thank your lucky stars the internet is still anonymous.

If that one chick does the "imitating a baby crying" trick one more time I'm going to lose it. Who thinks that's funny? Come on.

I say David Archuletta sweeps.

I fucking hate American Idol too. I hate even more the fact that I keep watching it. I hope David Cook wins, he's consistently good.

Not an AI watcher, but can we please just all agree that Greenwood’s “Proud to be an American” should be banished FOREVER. Who can listen to (let alone sing) that song with a straight face?! Gross!

Kristy Lee Cook is a cracker. And a pandering cracker at that. I wanted to cheer for her but on her silly ass idol page she states that one of her personal idols is Rev John Hagee. Rev Hagee is a right wing fanatic, who believes that God sent Hurricane Katrina to kill the gays in New Orleans and who believes that the US should attack Iran to prompt the second coming of our Christ and savior.

So so voice and wacky fanatical politics leaves me sick.

I don't want AI, but that was indeed good. Has anyone ever sung that song like that before?
