Beryl McNair wasn’t the only one filing paperwork at the Auditor’s office today. So did Craig Gier:
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASEThis afternoon, Craig Gier, candidate for Mayor, filed a Request For Hearing (see attached scanned form). Mr. Gier states that “I believe that Sho Dozono violated public financing laws by not claiming his poll that was dated December 21, 2007. The poll which cost $27,295 violates in kind contribution limits.” Further, Mr. Gier states that “In kind contributions are capped at $12,000 for publicly financed candidates.”
Per City Code Section 2.10.230, the hearing must be held not later than 7 days after the Request for Hearing is filed. As the Request For Hearing was filed today, the hearing must be held not later than Monday, March 17, 2008. Scheduling information will be released as soon as it is available.
The Citizen Campaign Commission will coordinate with the hearing requestor, the Auditor and the Oregon Office of Administrative Hearings. An Oregon State administrative law judge will preside over the hearing.
Thanks "Interesting that Amy is the first" I'm posting ur text, taken from other blog- here cause I agree
Interesting that Amy is the first media outlet to post this - seems like she must have had a head start with notification from Mark Wiener and Sam Adams himself.
Give us a break Amy - everyone in the campaign circles knows you are in bed with the Wiener camp = Sam Adams camp.
And political circles at this point have figured out that Sam Adams' campaign would take a strategy to plant this move in another candidates court, even though Jennifer Yocum, Adams' campaign manager has already submitted 30-40 pages in documents and requested background for this case.
This is all for negative publicity, but good that Sam Adams campaign did so, cause it only further exposes the dirty tactics of his campaign, and the dirty mess Amy Ruiz leaves behind as well.
Amy, you've lost all respect here from this young political circle
Calm down, people. Enough with the crazy conspiracy theories. I sincerely doubt that Sam Adams has so much power as to coerce these candidates and press like Amy Ruiz into doing anything for him.
But I’m sure he's flattered that you think that he does or can...
OMG. Sign up for the city email updates. That's where these came from. And this one, I posted half an hour late because I was on the phone.
I hope Gier and McNair have taken the time to read up on both the law and the auditor’s decision.
There are some good arguments to be made against the decision, but they're a little more complicated then "He over spent".
I'm tired of everyone saying I was put up to this. Sho is untrustworthy. Also I don't trust Sam Adams and his shady 3 part tax deals at the last minute so we can't get enough signatures to fight it. Sho violated election laws under Oregon law. Did anyone else notice the same comment postings on other sites of news outlets. Sho and Sam are both dirty in my book.
Well, Craig Gier, what you are effectively doing is forcing the election of one of your "dirty candidates" rather than letting us pick from two "dirty candidates".
You have what you wanted... your picture in the voters pamphlet for your scrapbook. Now why don't you butt out and let the credible candidates run their races?
The public financing question is just one thing going on in this race. What we really need to start talking about are the over-arching ethical problems that surround the Dozono campaign. For example, why did Dozono lie to the media about the origins of the poll on multiple occasions? And then there's the case of the mismanagement and misappropriation of funds from a late friend's son's trust fund several years ago. These are the sort of issues that define candidates, and they need to be discussed.
The Old Town blog has an excellent write-up of Dozono's major ethical problems: http://blog.oregonlive.com/oldtown/2008/03/sho_should_be_shoed_away.html
James
we all know how you mismanage even your own bank account, so don't go critizing someone who has a 250 person FTE payroll.
Is Sam properly lining your pockets, or is it the taxpayers who are paying you to blog on City Hall time!
Why does the Adams' campaign get away with campaigning on staff time?
Should city hall staff be paid to smear good citizens of Portland, so that dirty pants Sam can run every streetcorner in town?

Ha! Adams has recruited all the no name vanity candidates to file complaints. He plays hardball like nobody since Frank Ivancie.
