Fashion BREAKING: Portland Crushes Denim Suit Revival

Posted by Matt Davis on Thu, Mar 20 at 10:02 AM

Forget Sho Dozono and his alleged dodgy polling. Blogtown’s “bringing back the denim suit” general election has proved bruising and divisive, with accusations about receding hairlines and square-toed shoes flying left, right, and center. I think city commissioner Dan Saltzman didn’t sum it up best earlier, with the words: “I think we all need to go away from this, and take time to heal.

Still. I think it’s time for Portland to move beyond such historic differences, and embrace a more hopeful future… fuckers.

DENIM SUITS: YES OR NO?

As of 5:30pm yesterday, 122 people had voted, with 52% of Portlanders feeling that the denim suit looked like a dog’s breakfast. While I’m aware this means more than 60 people enjoyed my latest fashion experiment, and that these votes include former Mercury news editor Scott Moore VOTING TWICE against the outfit, I shall accept this humbling defeat with the grace of Al Gore, and go back to the men’s tailoring drawing board. Moore’s advice? “Wear more plaid, grow a beard.”

Peh.

Henceforth, I shall be improving the outfit, for those skeptics out there, by substituting jeans with a nice pair of loose slacks from Brooks Brothers. And perhaps this hat, designed by Mercury genius, Brad Buckner.

Actually scrub that. Your fashion tips are welcome. I’m off on vacation until Monday.
