Artsy Michael Cera to Play Scott Pilgrim?

From the Hollywood Reporter:

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Michael Cera, who played the title character’s would-be boyfriend in “Juno,” is in final negotiations to star in the adventure romance “Scott Pilgrim’s Little Life.”

“Life” tells the story of a young slacker (Cera) who meets the woman of his dreams but finds that he can only win her heart by battling and defeating her seven evil ex-boyfriends.

The project is based on the Oni Press graphic novel “Scott Pilgrim Volume 1: Scott Pilgrim’s Precious Little Life,” written by Bryan Lee O’Malley. Michael Bacall wrote the screenplay.

“Final negotiations,” that’s promising, right? If you haven’t read the Scott Pilgrim comic books, do it. I know how emo the premise sounds. Throw in Brian Lee O’Malley’s big-eyed, too-adorable-for-words characters, and the series has no right to be as a charming and addictive and fun as it is—but nonetheless, I read four books in about a day and a half, and still want MORE. They’re great. Scott Pilgrim is a little more callous/ass-kicking than the characters Cera has played thus far, it’ll be nice to see him trade in the short-shorts and vintage Nikes for something a little more rock and roll. And what a coup for local comics publishing house Oni Press!

But in the same article, and even more exciting (to me. and my best friend from high school. Probably no one else):

[Cera] next shoots the romantic comedy-drama “Youth in Revolt,” with Miguel Arteta directing.

Holy crap! How did I not know about this? Youth in Revolt, as in, my favorite book in high school, CD Payne’s fictionalized account of the coming-of-age adventures of the brainiac nerd/sex-fiend Nick Twisp! Where I learned how much guys really masturbate, and who Godard is, and that using big words and being funny are not mutually exclusive, and half of the catch phrases that I still use today! I can’t believe they’re finally making a movie out of this.

Holy crap!

My wife works for Oni. They are BESIDE THEMSELVES with joy over this.

Also, the Scott Pilgrim movie is being directed by Edgar Wright (Shawn of the Dead, Hot Fuzz). Exciting!

"Also, the Scott Pilgrim movie is being directed by Edgar Wright"

VERY encouraging, ok I'm watching for this one.
