Film R.I.P. the Blind Guy from Patrick Swayze’s Road House

Posted by Wm. Steven Humphrey on Mon, Mar 3 at 9:11 AM

In not a very good way to start the week, the blind guy from Patrick Swayze’s Road House is dead. Blind from birth due to a rare form of cancer, the blind guy from Patrick Swayze’s Road House passed away Sunday at the age of 41. Though known for other things as well, the blind guy from Patrick Swayze’s Road House is best known for his role as Cody, the blind guy from Patrick Swayze’s Road House who played the guitar at the Double Deuce bar. Remember these scenes?

After Patrick Swayze beats the shit out of everyone in the bar…

Cody, Blind Singer at Double Deuce: Ladies and gentlemen… James Dalton.

and…

Dalton: So, you play pretty good for a blind white boy.

Cody, Band Singer at Double Deuce: Yeah, and I thought you’d be bigger.

Both of those are funny, because he’s blind. GET IT?! Rest in peace, Blind Guy from Patrick Swayze’s Road House. Rest in peace.

I was never a big fan of his music but that dude could play his ass off.

I loved the song Angel Eyes. He was a great artist. Sad...

BTW: Just so your readers know, his name was Jeff Healey. Although you are correct, he was in fact blind. That isn't all he was. He was a Blues Rock guitarist, known for playing his Fender flat on his lap.

Here is a bit from his Website:

Recognized as a 'musical prodigy' by his mid-teens, Healey soon came to the attention of one of blues music's' elder statesmen, Albert Collins. Healey went on to share a bill with Collins at Toronto's Albert's Hall. Healey later shared the same stage with no less an axeman than Stevie Ray Vaughan. And B.B. King at Vancouver Expo '86. His status as one of Canadian music's bright lights was rapidly becoming entrenched.

Or you can just remember him as the blind guy in Patrick Swayze's Road House.

I will remember him as the guy who burned down the Starry Night one hot sweaty evening back in March of 89. That's the Roseland for those of you who were still nursing back then. It seemed improbable that he could rip like that on a guitar laying in his lap.

I'm slightly offended at the ignorance of Mr. Humphrey. Jeff Healey was an amazing and talented guitarist and certainly not "best known for his role as Cody, the blind guy from Patrick Swayze’s Road House" He is BEST KNOWN as being one of Canada's premier musicians for the last 20 years. While being COMPLETELY BLIND he has entertained people all around the world with his amazing blues, jazz and rock musical skills.
