Southeast Portland was buzzing with campaign events this morning.
At SE 159th, just north of Division, Charles Lewis was directing a neighborhood crew busy filling potholes on a gravel, pitted road.
He was joined by Jefferson Smith, candidate for District 47 rep. We were just steps from the southern edge of the district he’d like to represent, Smith said.
Lewis explains what the event was all about—and why Portland’s streets aren’t treated equally—in this audio clip.
A little closer in, in Woodstock, Mayor Tom Potter joined Sho Dozono for a campaign kickoff. After a dual speech, the pair headed out to knock on doors.
Hear from the mayor and the man who wants to be mayor, in this clip.
Those two are a good fit.
If Charles Lewis spent a fraction of the time gathering background that he spends on crafting his next publicity stunt, among other things he'd learn that Portlanders who live on paved streets have paid for those streets. Every paved street in Portland was paid for by adjacent property owners. The value of the pavement gets passed with each successive homeowner; it's built into the value of the home. Portlanders who live on non-paved streets have not paid. If you want a paved street, you pay for it. That's equitable, and that's been the city's policy forever.
Meanwhile, Sho and Grandpa DoNothing have another stellar set of talking points to share with us. If you heard anything that sounded remotely like substance, you have better hearing than I do.
give it up Kyle - you ain't got nothing on the other Mayoral candidates, and quite frankly I'm getting tired of reading your rants on these blogs - especially when they are double-trouble like this one

Also, five blocks north of Burnside, I was getting interviewed by KOIN. I took the opportunity to explain that Sam and Sho are old, and that old people die.
