Election 2008 Sho Dozono Caps Campaign Contributions

Posted by Amy J. Ruiz on Tue, Mar 25 at 3:11 PM

A day after announcing that he was still in the mayor’s race, as a privately funded candidate, Sho Dozono has decided to cap individual contributions at $500, and total contributions at $200,000 (an amount that challenger Sam Adams—who has identical caps—says is more like $227,295, if you count the infamous poll).

Dozono’s announcement is after the cut.

DOZONO KEEPS CAMPAIGN GRASS ROOTS

Community and business leader Sho Dozono announced today that as he
continues his grass-roots campaign for Mayor of the City of Portland, he
will limit contributions to maintain the spirit of Voter-Owned Elections.

"I believe in civic responsibility, which engages and empowers all of our
citizens. I know that in Portland there is power in people working together
for change, and that all of those citizens deserve access to City Hall,
whether they have two dollars, two hundred dollars, or two minutes to make
their voice heard at City Council," Dozono said.

"I believe a grass-roots effort will win the day in this election.. To stay
true to our community and to the spirit of Voter-Owned Elections, I will
accept no contributions over $500 to my campaign, and will pledge, like my
opponent, to cap fundraising at $200,000. It will take every penny and
every volunteer to make our grass-roots effort successful in the limited
number of days left before the ballots go in the mail, but as and the owner
of a once-struggling business, I know how to spend wisely. And I will bring
those same core values to City Hall," Dozono said.

Dozono will continue to meet with the community about the issues that face
the city and will be showering the city with the Sho for Mayor message
starting this weekend. For further information about how to contribute and
get involved visit www.shoformayor.com or call 503-721-8712.

"It was heart warming to hear from so many people from throughout the city
who believe in me, encouraged me to stay in the race to become the next
Mayor of the City of Portland. I want to thank them all for their support
and I am committed to winning this race for them," Dozono said.
