Election 2008 Sho Dozono Responds to Today’s Appeals

Posted by Amy J. Ruiz on Mon, Mar 10 at 5:47 PM

From Dozono’s campaign:

PORTLAND-Mayoral candidate and community leader, Sho Dozono responds to the public notice today that appeals were filed with the City Auditor with the following statement.

“I am not surprised by the appeal and recognize that opponents have a right to an appeals process. The Auditor spent a considerable amount of time arriving at his decision and I am confident that the Oregon State administrative law judge who will preside over the hearing will confirm his determination. My focus is on the issues facing the city and not on diversions my opponents might try to create”, said Dozono.

Jennifer Yocum, from Sam Adams’ campaign has made repeated requests for information from the Auditor’s Office about the appeals process. Once again I am disappointed that my opponent doesn’t want to focus on the mayor’s race. I ask that all candidates focus their energy on addressing the City’s future. I believe the community is ready to move on and looks forward to a lively discussion about Portland”, said Dozono.

For the record, I checked into the behind the scenes action at the auditor’s office. Indeed, Yocom has requested information. She has not filed an appeal.

Let's see, there are about 8 candidates who have nearly no money to account for to run their Mayoral campaigns. None of them had the grassroots support to become a VOE candidate.

Sho Dozono had 4010 City of Portland voters come forward to support his candidacy, more than any other candidate in the history of City of Portland elections, and more than twice the amount required of him.

Sho is a man I want to support.

The opponents however, will scramble for whatever they can, like screaming cats sliding down the hill of a mountain with no holds, and no hope.

Even Adams, who was the presumed front-runner, is screaming for help, because he is seeing his 41% slowly dwindle, as his past supporters are now slowly moving behind Sho.

As the Tribune recently reported, there are many who say they're behind Sam because they fear retaliation on his part, but many of the power players and regular, good-hearted citizens of Portland are backing Sho Dozono.

I like Sho Dozono's response - cool, calm and collected, and assured that he is the best candidate. It's helpful that he understands that the other candidates can appeal, and that he isn't afraid to explore their questions. The more this poll issue doesn't die, the stronger the Sho for Mayor camp becomes, and the better Sho Dozono looks as a strong candidate who can hold up against the best of them.

Seriously, can we start getting IP addresses on these posts?

It seems pretty politics as usual to drag the Adams campaign into your statement even if two OTHER candidates filed the complaint. But I don't see Sam's campaign being able to make much of a public stir about this. It'd look like poor sportsmanship.

Jeff, before you speak too soon, you should probably do your own research.

As Amy referenced above, there is much public record documentation from Jennifer Yocum, Adams' campaign manager - it's just that Amy chooses not to disclose that to you, the reader

Amy, why don't you enlighten all of us as to what you are hinting at? why so coy?

Nice attempt to discredit me again. But I have reported on it. This Hall Monitor column is largely devoted to the letter Yocom sent to the auditor.

Other than that, there isn't "much public record documentation" from Yocom. She's done general "Please let me know if additional documentation has been received today" requests, and for "all communication to and from the Dozono campaign." (The same kind of request I, and other reporters, have been making regularly, to keep an eye on the campaigns.)

Beyond the initial letter requesting clarification and bringing additional facts to Blackmer's attention (see the column link, above), Yocom hasn't submitted anything of substance to the auditor. If and when she does, I'll try to be the first to report on it.

Ok, at this point I'm guessing the stupid sentence name commenter is one of Sho's daughters. A professional, paid staffer would realize how idiotic they're making the campaign look at this point.

How does Nerd even know that Sho Dozono has daughters?

It's been pretty well covered, Sherlock.

I was unaware - thanks for the info Nerd - you must work for The Portland Mercury to have provided the link.

I can tell by your sense of style and by the flair of your name

I like Sho Dozono very much. But regardless of how this turns out, it seems clear to me that Dozono's campaign is trying to have its cake and eat it too by more or less accepting this poll work and then asking for public funds. It is totally, totally reasonable for Adams or anyone else to appeal. It's not dirty politics, as Dozono at least implicitly indicates. This "I'm just going to focus on the issues" response is empty to me. Dozono may not be a politician, but he's already acting like one!

Brian

for someone who claims to like Sho, sure doesn't sound like it

Adams is the trying to have its cake and eat it too. Adams in the one who is currently in office, spending $90k a year of our tax dollars, and we are essentially paying him to run for office right now whether we like it or not

for his campaign to continue this poll issue is ridiculous and disingenuous

Brian please do more research before you post things like this and claim to like Sho. We'd all rather you just admit you don't like Sho, so we don't have to start thinking you are behind a mask like Sam Adams - pretending to like Sho but them stabbing him in the back every possible minute.

Sam's campaign is about nothing more than make up lies about Sho Dozono, when Sam knows very well that Sho would be an excellent Mayor

If Sho had entered the Mayor's race earlier, Sam wouldn't even be running right now, cause he would be too scared

People are starting to learn about Sho, and he's way ahead of his time, and doesn't deserve statements that are false about "politiking" like you describe here

Sho wants to talk about the issues and he is tired of his opponents distracting Portlanders from what is important.

Neither of the two candidates who filed the complaint get my vote - they are whiners and don't know enough about the VOE system

There's a reason SHO IS CERTIFIED - Auditor Blacker certified him.

Isn't it interesting that the people who say, "Do more research before you post," so rarely post any of their own?

For all you "follow Sam around like a puppy dog" writers here: Jeff, Eliot and anony

check the records that come out tomorrow - Sam's camp is on the public record for contacting the Auditor's office today with some very interesting news....

Sam Adams' campaign asked to submit evidence to the 3 appeals filed from the Sam Adams campaign without having to file a complaint. and there is more...

Ha Ha you fools. It's all about Sam - although it's all about him being a POOR SPORT

I know a very big publication that is coming out with this tomorrow, and if Amy Ruiz doesn't check the facts herself and report on it, we'll know exactly who tucks Ms Ruiz in at night
