Anti-war protesters swarm City Hall:

That’s taken from high up in the Portland building, by Paul Cone. We may have pictures from inside City Hall momentarily—because protesters have jumped onto the roof of the little square rotundas on either side of the main entrance. (Can you call it a rotunda if it’s square?)
Sara Petrocine, a staffer in Commissioner Randy Leonard’s office, has a window overlooking one of those rotundas. She thought the anti-war chanting seemed to be getting louder, and she turned around to find protesters right outside her window.
Apparently city hall facilities managers are nervous. “They think the roof is going to collapse,” Petrocine says.
The protesters are high school kids who walked out of school today. They aren’t asking city hall to do anything about the war—like pass another resolution opposing it—so it’s quite unclear what they’re doing on the building’s roof.
A few minutes before 2pm—when the council was slated to convene an afternoon meeting—Mayor Tom Potter found a bullhorn and headed outside, says his spokesperson, John Doussard. Doussard isn’t sure what Potter said to the largely teenaged crowd, but “he got a cheer out of it.” Indeed, Potter and the entire council are on record as opposing the war. A few minutes after Potter spoke to the crowd, they dispersed and the council went ahead with their meeting.

More photos after the cut!

Kinda makes the protest last weekend look like a walking tour guided by the Portland police department. Nice work you whippersnappers, although you did leave a horrendous mess in the north park blocks, ya'll might want to pick up your trash next time.
Good on 'em. Leave no trace, punkasses!
After leaving City Hall, they marched through downtown streets a bit, and right now they're all whooping and hollering in Pioneer Square.
Any idea which high school they're from? Are they all from the same one? Lincoln is downtown, right? Could it have been that one?
I need more and better pictures to see if my youngest nephew is amongst them...
"We need another Vietnam to thin out their ranks a little!"
Portland government = the ideology of teenagers skipping school
At least those kids got off their asses instead of wasting space in front of Rite Aid spare changing. Good job kids.
BrianM: I was one of the protesters there, and the protesters were from all the different high schools in Portland (and some middle schools, and some adults...) I, personally, am from Lincoln but we were only a small part of the group.
i was a student in the protest from wilson high, we represented a huge portion of the group. i couldn't hear a damn thing that the mayor was saying, or see him for that matter. but i had an awesome time, screamed my lungs out, walked in the streets with my fellow activists, and it was definitely worth skipping chemistry.
Im from wilson too! There were so many people there, it was great. It was a lot of fun too, i was with a bunch of my friends and i didnt have to do the sheep brain lab in biology! I liked all of our signs too.
Good job, high schoolers!
erm...
What did the Mayor say????
"GET OFF MY BUILDING!!!!!"
I'd cheer if I heard him holler that...through a bullhorn.
I work downtown and got to watch some of the protest. I admire these young people for voicing their opinions. Too many adults sit on their asses and say nothing, while thousands of innocents die every day. thanks Dubya. You've ruined our country's economy and our image in the rest of the world.
As a parent of a wall scaler, i uncompromisingly demand that full school credit be given for any time missed.
Any school administrator who refuses to do so, or punishes a student for attending this demonstration (come on now, its THEIR future!) is specifically called out by this parent and deserves to be spit in his or her face by the students. While you’re at it, you can take your smarmy answering machine message saying "your son missed school today" and cram it up your ass!
School teachers think only of protecting their meager jobs and security. This seems sooooo ridiculous when the Chimp is effectively destroying them.
Young people show us the way with courage and idealism! Thier informed understanding of current events is superior to the narrow, biased understanding of adults (yep that’s you teachers!), as they have not been subject to the constant propaganda spewed by the mainstream news media. They have been informed by their own study, reading and internet searches.
Young people: do not let the puffed up buffoonery of school administrators, police or city officials cause you to doubt the correctness and righteousness of your beliefs.
You are my heros!
Nice photo of you, Randy Leonard.
Next time, I hope the photo will be of you outside standing in the cold rain with the rest of us. hehehehe....

I think that all governments should be frightened of the people. It's the only way that we can keep them in line. Soon, they'll probably call the police and we can see how frightened they say they were when faced with so many people as an excuse for violence against the people who pay them.
