Mercury YOU Be the Comics Page Editor!

Posted by Wm. Steven Humphrey on Fri, Mar 7 at 8:36 PM

So many commentors wanted to talk about our former and present comics in this post, I decided to give them their own thread. SOOOOOOO… by all means, YOU be the comics page editor! What Mercury comics would you get rid of, what comics would you add, and would you buy a bumper sticker of Calvin peeing on a cross? (I’m thinking of marketing them.)

First, Maakies and Underworld should get the boot. If you're going to run filthy hipster comics, you should atleast have something with a little class, like A Softer World.

And, I'll say it a millon times over, you guys need Achewood.

Yeah Underworld needs the boot but Maakies is gold! Keep Maakies. Achewood would be super sick. Can you even do that?

i love kaz. though, lately the writing has been sub par. give underworld the same two weeks that you would give to other comics (dinosaur comics, immediately, please) and then the boot. maakies is beautiful and almost always has a punchline in the little smaller strip. with the color printing you could do the funniest reader-submitted photo of the week (like stranger's drunk of the week?) or something like the rocket's "i found it". blecky yuckerella was a fantastic strip. ryan alexander-tanner (he wrote the polaroid comic strip for WW, also the PGE bulb guy) is currently out of print in local periodicals as far as i know. Also, maybe open it up to local artists who will do 1-off strips for fun and ego boosting.

i have a 40 hr. work week already, how long does the comics page editor have to work?

i'd vote for achewood, too.

put me down for a sticker. may i suggest hobbes on the cross?

How about a James Kolchaka comic, like American Elf or Fancy Froglin?

Dinosaur comics is a fine litmus test for how awesome someone is.

Blecky I'm more than glad to see the back of.

Overcompensating should be considered methinks

Get Your War On! is absolutely brilliant. Pleaaaase?

Absolutely the funniest comic around is Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal.

This girl just started doing comics but her stuff is extremely funny. You have to have a myspace account to view but here's one.
