Mark that calender—Tuesday, May 6, 7 pm, at the Someday Lounge (125 NW 5th). We’ve invited all of the candidates running for the three commissioner positions and the mayor’s seat. And we’re inviting you—and your ballot, which should arrive just in time to tuck into your back pocket on your way to Someday Lounge.
Here’s how it works: Those candidates will face off, speed date style, with actual voters. We’ll be planting a handful of community leaders to grill the candidates, and there will be seats for lots of regular voters like you and me. Every minute or so, the voters slide down to interview the next candidate, until they get through them all. (Don’t have a question for a particular candidate? Arm wrestle! Play a round of tic-tac-toe! Let the candidate talk your ear off!)
For those too shy to face the candidates themselves, we highly encourage eavesdropping while sipping a cocktail. Either follow your favorite questioner and see how the candidates’ responses stack up, or hover near the candidate you’d like to know more about, and see how they handle the quick questions.
At the end of the night, you may not get a second date with the candidate you’re crushing on—but you’ll definitely know what to mark on your ballot!
We’re putting together our list of hand picked speed daters, and we welcome your suggestions. Who would you like to see going down the line, facing off with each candidate?

BOJACK!!!!! C'mon...you know you want to!
This is a brilliant idea.
Kudos!
Makes me wish I lived in Portland, though when I go out to a bar in Pendleton there's always a good chance I'll get my ear talked off by a local candidate or if I had a question for them, I could probably just call them up and meet them at GP...
