Election 2008 Campaign News for Seat #2

Posted by Amy J. Ruiz on Wed, Apr 23 at 5:56 PM

Ballots go out in about 10 days, and the campaigns are in overdrive, getting out their messages. In the race for Erik Sten’s old seat—position #2—Nick Fish and Jim Middaugh will debate this Friday at City Club.

Meanwhile, Jim Middaugh has a new campaign song, I Love My Portland.

I love my Portland. Now I wasn’t born in Portland, I grew up in San Jose When I first came north the signs still read ‘Enjoy your visit please don’t stay.’ But you could not tear me away. Now I’m rolling along the river, tip my hat to Tom McCall. I’m giving thanks along these banks for the beauty of it all. I love my Portland.

Okay, so I’ve seen Middaugh strum a guitar at campaign HQ, and he’s confessed that his deepest darkest secret is that he wants to be a folk singer—which had me thinking he’s the performer, even though it doesn’t quite sound like him. Turns out it’s Michael Fuchs, Middaugh’s old friend, he says. Regardless, the song will officially be stuck in my head for a few days. Portland’s me and Portland’s you…

Middaugh’s having a “car-free canvass” this weekend, starting at Colonel Summers Park at 10 am. “Walk, bus, bike, Max or roller skate to our car free canvass to celebrate Earth Day and spread the word about Jim.”

In the same race, Nick Fish is having another open house the same morning:

Last week, Congressman Barney Frank was in town, and joined Fish on a few campaign events, including a stop at the Portland Housing Center that I just missed. Fish, who used to work for Frank, was all smiles two days later at the North Portland Candidate Forum, when I asked him about it. They also had a fundraiser at Terry Bean’s house on Friday night, with former Governor Barbara Roberts and Oregon State Representative Tina Kotek. A surprise guest showed up: Gus Van Sant.

Comments

Nick Fish is such a pimp! He should be running for mayor right now instead of Scam.
