Homo Domestic Partnership and Anti-Discrimination Repeals: Doomed to Failure?

Posted by Amy J. Ruiz on Mon, Apr 21 at 6:21 PM

The campaign to repeal Oregon’s new domestic partnership and anti-discrimination laws is in bigger trouble than I thought. For starters, though the groups involved only have until early July to gather up tens of thousands of signatures on each of the two initiatives, they haven’t been cleared to start collecting signatures yet. Clock’s ticking, as they say.

Then today, I get this email from Restore America/Concerned Oregonians. I’d cut and paste, but then we’d lose all of the beautifully colored text and bolding, so here’s an image instead:

Yep, the sky is falling in Concerned Oregon. It takes a lot of cash to fund a statewide signature gathering campaign, and they’ve only collected $4,385.00. The Concerned Oregonians PAC—which, according to their filing, exists to oppose the land use Measure 49—has $517.06 in the bank as of this writing, but enough outstanding accounts payable to put them in the hole by $6,191.70.

Do people not hate the gays as much as they used to? Or have folks realized that domestic partnerships for same sex couples—which have been legal since February 4—hasn’t caused the downfall of civilization?

Reminds me, did anyone ever figure out what was up with the people of Restore America supposedly up and moving to Tennessee several months ago?

As far as we know, David Crowe did move. But still cares very deeply about Oregon.

Also, I like the apparent -- although bizarre -- hacking of their website, where on the events page it says "Th3.Azad was here amina goduklarim" for no apparent reason.

If Oregonians are so up in arms over these laws, why isn't anyone donating any money to the cause? Not to suggest that David Crowe shouldn't follow his dreams, but isn't this pretty clear evidence that his repeals don't actually have any support?

That hack translates to "put it in your own pu**y" which I suppose means "go f**k yourself". My Turkish street slang is not the best.
