Gossip Hypocrite Much? Disney’s Kid Underpants Ad Far Worse than Miley Photo Shoot

Posted by Wm. Steven Humphrey on Wed, Apr 30 at 1:53 PM

See, that’s the problem with companies who think they’re morally superior to everyone else—it’s too easy to be exposed as a hypocrite. Case in point? DISNEY, who raked poor (I mean that figuratively) Miley Cyrus over the coals for posing with an exposed back for a Vanity Fair photo shoot. However, thanks to the sharp eyes over at Slate, check out this Disney billboard spotted in China.

Can someone PLEASE move that scaffolding out of the way?

Here’s what Gary Foster of Disney’s Consumer Product Division had to say when confronted with a Disney billboard that’s fifty times more “creepy” than anything Miley Cyrus could muster…

Foster said he didn’t know which ad agency prepared the ad, how old the model was, or where the photo shoot took place. But he was sure it was the work of a Disney licensee: Shanghai Zhenxin Garments Co. Ltd., which makes underwear for girls and teens. China is notorious for its intellectual-property pirates, and Disney is a frequent victim, with people illegally slapping the Disney name and logo on items all the time. Could this have been the case with the billboard, I asked Foster. “No. Unfortunately not this time,” he replied. He assured me the billboard would be removed immediately.

So Foster launches a long explanation of why this typically happens... though it's not actually the circumstances surrounding THIS time?

So much worse than an Annie Leibowitz shoot...

honestly, i really don't see anything wrong with this ad. its an ad for cute underwear for kids. how is this any worse than putting your kid in a bathing suit and going down to the public pool? this is an innocent ad, being looked at the wrong way. why don't we just put kids in burqas so we don't have to worry about who sees them. i'm not saying let kids walk around nude or anything, but come on. this is just a cute kid's clothing ad.

That kid is hot.
