« Signs of Trouble: City Only Punishing Human Sidewalk Obstructions | Main | New Episode of Easier Than Reading »
Kudos to the Oregonian’s inPortland editors for running Aimee Green’s story, The Heavy Hand of the Law, today. It follows the cases of five individuals on whom the Police used force, only to watch the charges against them collapse in court.
“Some jurors interviewed by The Oregonian said it appeared defendants in these cases were prosecuted more for objecting to police behavior than for any criminal activity,” Green writes.
Good signs: Police Chief Rosie Sizer declined twice to be interviewed for the story, and Robert King of the police union responded with a statement citing the “thousands of arrests made each year.”
I have just two questions: Why was this story relegated to the inPortland section? And why did the paper wait to cover these cases as a quintet, rather than as they arose?
Thanks to Aimee for a solid story - but no thanks to her editors who got cold feet, cut the names of all officers and allowed prospective informants to the story - Sizer and King - to place their written responses adjacent to the article.
Matt's right to raise a skeptical brow at the editorial to bury the story deep in the paper. With the cop names, this is an A 1 story above the fold. Without them it's gutless.
Gutless.
Why gutless? Because the cop who beat Charles Mandigo is Christopher Humphreys, the same cop who beat James Chasse to death.
Gutless indeed.
See that Humphreys is mentioned AGAIN and wonder if he's gotten anything done about the bad case of WALLEYE that his pictures depict him as having. Truly, this creepy character has the absolute worst case I've ever seen. Just a look at him is awful frightful and scary.
Come on! Do we really need such characters on our Police Force?
No, you're right!
I didn't think so as well.
So, let's dump his ass from the PoPo one time for all time and just be damned and done with him, shall we?????
Sorry dumper, it's not walleye that he's
got. Looks more like Down's Syndrome to
me. Look again and see for yourself!b
The facial features on that photo aren't exclusive to Down Syndrome. The only sure check for that condition is a chromosome analysis. Plus, we have no solid assurance the picture is of Humphreys, do we?
That said, if Off. Humphreys is implicated in both cases, that should raise a red flag somewhere....
Until we mass and take away the power from the police union, it will be business as usual for the Portland Police Bureau. There is no level of accountability to the public for the unnecessary use of force in our communities. witness the videos posted on Youtube and the other sites out there like joe-anybody.com. Maybe we need to get the FBI involved, but I doubt it will do any good.
so major cop-nutter Robert King of the police union responded with a statement citing the “thousands of arrests made each year.” as if to blow it off, and I am reminded of the people that have been killed by these Killer-Kops and as decent citizen, I grieve their loss at the hands of these out-of-control PoPo Thugs and wish that justice was had in
their loss to this community.
Perhaps the reason King is into blowing it off is the FACT that he too is a damned Killer-Kop, having killed a very young man--little more than a child--in his earlier career while a Rookie Cop back in 1991.
With such an sterling background, is it any wonder that King is such an Arch-Defender of all Killer-Kops in this area. Those of us in the "mental health" community are well aware that part of the man's motive is to chase his "inner demons" away by keeping them at bay by defending
in most aggressive manner those fellow officer's guilty of the same thing he is...overreaction and abuse of power!
People would do well to remember that this Robert King has quite a HISTORY to back up his tough rhetoric and it isn't one anyone should be proud of.
Would YOU be proud of the fact that you had killed a young man in the course of your employment, and then devote the rest of your so-called "career" in self-justification of that very act?
Well, very few sane people would and that is a FACT!
So, when it comes to this King and his snide comments, you need to temper it all with the knowledge of what is his motivator and what his background truly is.
