I just got a nice phone call from a publicist at Dark Horse alerting me that Mayor Potter has officially declared April to be Portland Comics Month. (I hear they’re not just for kids any more?)

There is SO MUCH comics related stuff going on this month, all culminating in the Stumptown Comics Fest on April 26-27.

A few things coming up:

Tomorrow night, “The Art of Nicholas Gurewitch & Tony Millionaire” opens at Floating World, with a First Thursday reception from 6-10 pm. (Gurewitch drew Perry Bible Fellowship; Tony Millionaire does Maakies). Floating World, 20 NW 5th

Friday is the official CD release for the Rose City Rollers comic book, which I wrote about in this week’s arts section. Cosmic Monkey Comics, 5335 NE Sandy, 6 pm.

Tuesday at Floating World, the lead singer of Ezra’s secret shame My Chemical Romance is doing a signing for The Umbrella Academy, the comic he writes for Dark Horse which, surprisingly, does not suck. I just started reading it, but I like it so far. Things from Another World, 4133 NE Sandy, 4-6 pm

Next Wednesday, Marjane Satrapi, AKA “the Persepolis lady,” Portland Arts and Lectures at the Schnitz, 1101 SW Broadway, here for tickets.

And so much more. Opera, even. I will defer here to CBR and their very comprehensive list.

UPDATE: I just got another nice phone call, this one from Sam Adams’ office letting me know that about a comics show opening tomorrow at City Hall: Second Annual Comic & Illustration Show!, Thursday April 3rd 5-7pm, City Hall, 1221 SW 4th, more info here

Looks like the CBR list is down, but you can find the full, updated list of events here:

And don't forget the 24-Hour Comics Drawpocalypse this Saturday at Cosmic Monkey Comics!

24-Hour Comics Drawpocalypse was a lot of fun, the guys hosting it where cool and friendly. The artists and writers there were intresting and very talented. A great time was had by all especially the whole sleep deprivity that hits you at 5:30 a.m. If you get the chance to be a part of the next one, I whole heartedly reccomend it. Thanks for advertising it.
