News Bishops Closes Pearl Salon: “We Fucked Up…”

Posted by Matt Davis on Thu, May 29 at 3:45 PM

Bishops is closing its Pearl District salon and reopening it as a barbershop on July 1. Bishops owner Leo Rivera sent the Mercury a head in a box this afternoon, a la Gwyneth Paltrow in Seven, to announce the closure:

The head had “We fucked up” scrawled on the back, and was accompanied by a “ransom note” of sorts:

Rivera says he wanted to grow the company by adopting a new business model, “bringing the cool edginess” of his “rock’n’roll barbershops to a higher-end salon setting.” Basically, however, “the thing fell flat…and no amount of VO5 was going to make it stick.”

Rivera says it’s “experiment over and lesson learned.” There’ll be a “freedom from pretension party” at the salon on August 1 from 7-10pm. The new salon will feature wall art by Buff Monster, Tara McPherson, and Richard Jones. Unfortunately I just had my hair cut.

he should send another one for the chesterfield!

This is just another case of someone mis-judging the Pearl and thinking that it's residents will pay $40 for what they can get for $20 less then 10 blocks away.

Woo-hoo! Another Bishops option downtown. At least they acknowledged their screw-up.

Now if only they can figure out how to take appointments and fully staff their stores. Waiting an hour for a chair ain't fun even with beer.

Only at peak times have I had to wait as long as an hour. But it would be nice if they had a TV (maybe even playing old punk rock videos) to stare at. Oh, and the option of making an appointment IF doing a cut and color. RIP "Bishops, The Salon" See you back on the crusty side.

Thanks for sticking up for us, Dane. You're right. We're not tight-asses, we're just frugal.

After canceling his September performance in Portland, Neil Diamond is back and ready to blow us out of our seats! Fine, maybe he won’t “blow us,” but I bet he’ll come to the stage locked and loaded with hits such as “Cherry, Cherry,” “Sweet Caroline,” and “I’m a Believer.” And does anybody remember “Heartlight”? I do! WSH
