News Cops Close City Hall Sidewalks For “Cleaning”

Posted by Matt Davis on Thu, May 15 at 11:41 AM

From the cops:

Early this morning the Police Bureau closed the sidewalk around City Hall for cleaning. All individuals were removed and the sidewalk will remain closed until Safe and Clean completes the cleaning. Once the sidewalk reopens, individuals will once again be allowed to walk or protest on the sidewalk in front of at City Hall. Police will enforce all applicable laws related to camping and sleeping on the sidewalk.

No one was arrested during the sidewalk closing. However, one person was arrested about a half hour later. The man, 20-year-old Andrew Newman, was arrested for Interfering with a Police Officer after he refused repeated commands to get out of the street.

Discuss.

Getting weirder by the day.

Wow. Can the police bureau just try not to look evil?

I notice that the unlicenced newspaper and advertising boxes are still there. So they didn't really clean everything up, did they?

And by cleaning they probably meant...cleaning

I am posting this here as a last resport because despite repeated attempts to post this, it never appeared on their site.

Cops Smear Homeless Protest by dirtie tactix

"Fecal matter and syringes"

Portland police have been pulling its dirty tricks again, and now their PR machine is spinning against the Homeless Protest at City Hall.

It is well known the dark siders in the police force have employed slimy tactics in the past; excessive force, planting evidence, character assassination, falsifying written testimony, taking bribes. But this time it's not the blacks or latinos, instead they are demonizing the houseless because they don't want to tolerate them any longer. They have launched their attack.

GOAL: elimination.

TACTIC: misinformation and lies.

RESULT: publicly supported removal.

When the protest started, the people there agreed it would be a drug/alcohol free zone, and anyone using would be jeopardizing the entire effort. The people understood that the police would use any possible ammo against them to undercut their protest. They were very grateful to have restrooms nearby to use, and were careful not to look inappropriate in their protest since they know the whole city is watching.

After the first few weeks, however, the PBA, Mayor Potter, and Portland Police decided they were done tolerating our city's needy. After some preemptive frontal assaults, they swept in and posted anti-camping notices, stating the people were in violation and would be removed. Then, contrary to the City Hall employees' own statements, the Oregonian conspicuously printed the reason being "...security on Friday found feces, syringes and trash in first floor City Hall bathrooms." This was the first anyone had heard of these allegations, inside or outside the protest, nor were these 'facts' published in any of the other papers. Quickly the (paid?) neo-con bloggers kept up the demonization of the lazy, dirty, drug-addicted sub-humans, and the case was laid to justify their danger and detestableness in the eyes of the community.

After successfully sullying the fight of the homeless with this slander, the Bureau then knew they could move in for the kill.

Following the sham meeting with Mayor Potter, who boldly handed the homeless representatives a pre-written statement outlining the contents of their yet-to-transpire meeting in present tense terms, the needs and requests of the people were systematically ignored and the threat of a sweep remained.

It finally came Thursday at 6:30 in the morning under the pretense of 'cleaning the sidewalk'. Newspaper reports were then immediately published that the police successfully shut down the protest, and again misinformation was used to hedge in support against these heathens. This time, the lies came directly from the mouth of a Portland Police officer. Sgt. Brian Schmautz falsly stated to The Oregonian that "fecal matter and syringes" were accumulating as a reason for the shutdown. Baseless, inflammatory, and completely discrediting, this statement was printed by the state's largest paper as a fact.

Their tactics are transparent. They wish to continue the marginalization of an already marginalized segment of society. Instead of serving and protecting all the people, they only serve Money and His Masters.

Its time to take these pigs down.

I curse City Hall, the Portland Police and the PBA with all the light of the sun to be shone onto their corruption, lusts, illegitimate power, deception, blood money and evil. May their deeds swallow them whole.

And may the power of the people be restored back into the hands of the people.

Take back YOUR CITY... FOLLOW THE MONEY... TAKE THEM OUT.

Well, tell them to head up W. Burnside when they're done...it's filthy. I can show them TONS of needles and feces.

Hmm, it's a case of which came first, the homeless or the feces/syringes.

Newspaper boxes can't be licensed or regulated in the state of Oregon. Our strong Bill of Rights in the state consitution protects newspaper vending as "Freedom of Speech".

I'm sending in The Cleaner.

No! No! Not The Cleaner.

Forget the newspaper boxes - there are tons of unlicensed signs on the sidewalk. You can't say "excuse me" to a sign.

Oh, but some of the signs are in front of City Center Parking lots - you don't dare ticket Greg Goodman!
