• SAM ADAMS avoids the run-off, and walks jauntily into the mayor’s seat. Is that steam we hear coming from Potter’s ears?
• In the City Commissioner #2 race, NICK FISH will also be saving a pant-load of money, by not having to take on Jim Middaugh who gathered only 21% of the vote.
• AMANDA FRITZ took a commanding early lead, but was unable to get the majority she needed to avoid a run-off. Currently, she’s looking at a dog-fight for the number two position between Charles Lewis (13%), John Branam (12%) and Jeff Bissonette (12%).
• And surprise! RANDY LEONARD whomps the competition, garnering 73% of the vote for the City Commish #4 seat.
• In the state senate, currently it’s JEFF MERKLEY looking back over his shoulder at STEVE NOVICK, 47 to 41%. UPDATE: Novick has conceded.
• And another no-brainer, BARACK OBAMA wins Oregon with 58% over Hillary’s 42%. (Has she conceded yet? No, of course she hasn’t.)
Congratulations to Sam Adams! I was hoping he would run, long prior to his announcement.
Mad props to Obama as well. I got into a shitty voting situation (somehow I got a non-partisan ballot even though I had re-registered as Dem - never register with a dude on the street, is all I can say). Thank god I'm in a state where he had a real backing. I DO wonder how many people got stuck in my same shitty situation. AGAIN, DO NOT REGISTER WITH SOME GUY ON THE STREET.
I always recommend calling the elections office the day or so before the reg deadline and making sure your registration is there and correct. If you're a day or two out, best thing is to go into county elections and do it yourself. It's the only way you can ensure that not only did your registration get turned in (and not lost somewhere, coffee spilled on it, the person not make it to county elections before the 5 p.m. deadline, etc.), but that your reg was filled out correctly.
I worked in a county elections office in '04, and I handled a lot of registrations that were missing info, and therefore invalid.
C'mon Novick! Can anyone shed light on how many more MultCo ballots are coming in, versus the rest of Oregon? Novick has more strength from the Portland Metro area.
