While driving past the now-departed Mark Lindsay’s Rock & Roll Cafe, I was reminded of a really cool website which documents the history of Portland’s Hollywood District. Mark Lindsay’s tried to latch onto some of that history by incorporating the fondly-remembered recipes from Yaw’s; now Mark Lindsey’s is history.
Historical Highlights of Hollywood has pages on Yaw’s and the Portland branch of the now-shocking Coon Chicken Inn (which is now Clyde’s Prime Rib). Those are long gone, but the Hollywood neighborhood still has some well-preserved relics from bygone days, including the facade of the Hollywood Theatre, the Hollywood Burger Bar, and Paulson’s Pharmacy. For more history, and cool photos, too, check it out here.
Is it really any surprise that Mark Lindsay's didn't last? That kind of gimmicky shit just doesn't work here. Best of luck in yr next venture, Mark.

Neil DiamondAfter canceling his September performance in Portland, Neil Diamond is back and ready to blow us out of our seats! Fine, maybe he won’t “blow us,” but I bet he’ll come to the stage locked and loaded with hits such as “Cherry, Cherry,” “Sweet Caroline,” and “I’m a Believer.” And does anybody remember “Heartlight”? I do! WSH Rose Garden, 1 Center Court St., $55-120, 8:00 PM |

The 7-Up building (pictured in its earlier incarnation as the Steigerwald Dairy Building) on 37th and Sandy was home to a strip club back in the early '80s. It underwent yet another remodel and now houses Nick Fish campaign HQ.
