News Homeless Protesters Take Offense At Potter’s Free Speech Interpretation

Posted by Matt Davis on Wed, May 28 at 12:34 PM

The homeless protesters outside city hall say they’re upset at a reported statement by Tom Potter this morning, to the effect that people testifying off topic in council, or whose purpose in testifying was to deliberately extend the council session would be asked to leave.

The homeless protest has dwindled since it officially disbanded on May 13, but members of the original group have been showing up for Wednesday morning council sessions to testify, and occasionally, they have been staying on to testify on other city council issues, too.

Katie Nilson, who was with the original group of protesters, says: “I think the reality is, it’s our right as citizens to speak about any issue that we want to on city council’s agenda. I think any issue that’s brought up in there has to do with the homeless issue because if we’re spending money on golf courses or putting people into the hall of fame, we’re not spending money on the city’s most vulnerable population.

Nilson describes Potter’s reported move as a “scare tactic,” but adds “I think he’s the one that’s really afraid.”

Homeless protest? Is that thing still around?
The real issue is, where is this new golf course gonna be?

He's probably under the impression that strong-arm tactics magically transform him from a weak mayor into a strong one.
