Election 2008 Middaugh Central: The Speech

Posted by Alison Hallett on Tue, May 20 at 8:53 PM

Jim takes the stage.

Cheers, cheers, much love. Can’t hear him yet.

“we didn’t win. but it was a victory nonetheless, thank you all so much. It’s been a great experience, i’m blown away by how many people helped out… people were so positive, and so thoughtful and so commited to the future of this place… The civic fabic here is so strong… This is really a great place, no matter who wins …. give yourselves a big hand. this is really a great place.”

Thanks, thanks….

Toast to Erik Sten. Keep pushing his progressive ideas.
“It’s been a great experienc [running for office], y’all should do it sometime.”

And someone yells, “you should do it again!!”

And the crowd goes a bit crazy. ‘Cause they love him. ‘Cause he rules.

And… THEN we get a mad shoutout as Jim notes that he didn’t actually lose today ‘cause he DID win the Merc’s hottest candidate contest. And then he says….

“Let’s make Portland the best… most sustainable city in the world.”

Totes! Aww. Seriously Portland, come on. Pretend you’re actually from here next time around. What? What?!! Oh, god. I need to drink some water.

I voted for him. On the fancy ballot and for the hotness. He'll be back.

Alison, you're drunk. What did we say about journalists earlier? I don't know. I was drunk
