Drunk OMG Drunken Proofing Is so Hard!

Posted by Courtney Ferguson on Tue, May 20 at 11:32 PM

Being the Mercury copy chief is soooooo hard. People yell at you all the time for letting godawful grammer (hahahahaha) get through the steel trap… but now look at me, I’m fact checking and proofing while drunk. Soooooooo… in preparation for the onslaught, suck it Mercury readers! I’m drunk on election night. Things might be wrong. Sho lost. My boyfriend is crippled. I’ve had red wine spilled on my stupid fancy pants jeans. I’ve given up… ‘til tomorrow. Wednesday, I’m back on track, you motherfuckers!!!! Hate you soooooo much… JK.

You guys kick election coverage ass. Thanks for the excellent, funny reporting and the shared drinking experience.

Since your bf is a crip you can come get some drunken "love" from me...you know who I am! lol

I guess that's why the Mercury isn't taken seriously. "Alternative" must mean drunk, calling other editorial boards "cunts", bad grammar, and feeling smug about it because you're "alternative".

Nice.

(fine example = bitter dozono supporter)

best coverage in the city, good job to everyone who blogged last night.

"alternative" must mean 24-7 reporting, covering local issues that other news orgs aren't, having fun, breaking new ground in web-journalism, giving the city a voice, etc.

Oh, pull your panties out of your ass, Fine Example!

People like you are so damn annoying. I mean really f*cking annoying! Do you completely lack a sense of humor?

I think the Mercury election coverage was informative AND entertaining. Exactly the reason why I read the paper in the first place.

Voted for Sam and happy, so there goes your theory Sonia.

Entertained? That's what news has become too much of (except for the Oregonian which is best for insomnia or self torture).

People watch Fox News to be "entertained". What happened to professionalism? Calling others cunts isn't professional and ruins any credibility one may have had. Editing while your drunk isn't professional.

How about news without the heavily biased opinion attached? Is there something wrong with that?

Leave the extremely biased blathering to Rush Limbaugh, Bill O'Rielly, or Al Franken. How about news that reports both sides and assumes that the reader is intelligent enough to come to their own conclusions, and not slant the stories to the political bias of the editorial board.

It seems to me that if one were offended by such commentary they could easily identify a post titled, "OMG Drunken Proofing is so Hard!" and merely skip it.

It's not like this is the only election coverage post on Blogtown.

Yeah, i think there is a problem with news that purports to be free from bias. The problem is that we are all full of bias and readers are mislead when they are told they are reading something completely objective when it isn't.

Just like i think there is a problem with one corporation owning all information outlets in one region. It automatically creates a bias based on improving shareholder/company value above all else. No way around it.

And i totally agree with you that people are smart enough to form their own opinions, which is why when you read the merc, they will let you know their own opinion while at the same time giving you the facts. And then you can form your own opinion by researching a topic from your several independent and local news sources. You're smart like that.

I think our opinions are the same. You just don't like humor with your news. Which is fine, but doesn't make the news any less reliable or relevant.

As far as being professional, i agree again that the merc isn't what is considered a traditionally professional paper. But it's probably what keeps them from being snooze-inducing like the O.

so i guess it's all about finding balance in the news you consume.

p.s. i voted for sam too! it's like we're the same person.

I hope this is a sign that your co-workers are keeping you well supplied with bourbon. It is the law, after all.
