Film On the Filming of The Road.

“They were here such a short time,” Susan Haley of the Oregon Film & Video Office wrote when she emailed me back earlier today. “They’re already done and wrapped for Oregon. Sorry!” I read Haley’s kind reply, and I chastised myself for not sending my initial email—one in which I asked if The Road was still filming in Oregon, and if it was, how I could sneak onto the set for a Mercury story—sooner. DAMN IT.

But while production for The Road—which is based on the astonishing novel by Cormac McCarthy, and which is directed by John Hillcoat, whose The Proposition kicked unholy amounts of ass, and which stars none other than Viggo Mortensen, AKA Aragorn—might’ve wrapped in Oregon (DAMN IT), The New York Times has an interesting story on final days of the production. If you’re a fan of McCarthy’s book, or The Proposition, or of a particular noble founder of Middle-earth’s House of Telcontar, it’s definitely worth a read.

Thanks to Andrew R. Tonry for the heads up.

Comments

Judging by the few stills we've seen, The Road's going to be Armagedda-awesome.

Yeah, and apparently, according to the article, the film script is REALLY loyal to the novel. Which makes it even more likely that it's going to be incredible.

In the sea of Hollywood shit, every once in a while something like this floats by... or something like There Will Be Blood, or No Country...

As someone who was NOT a fan of the book and McCormack's blatant attempt to make his mark on LITRACHUH, I still have high hopes for the film.

Neil Diamond

After canceling his September performance in Portland, Neil Diamond is back and ready to blow us out of our seats! Fine, maybe he won’t “blow us,” but I bet he’ll come to the stage locked and loaded with hits such as “Cherry, Cherry,” “Sweet Caroline,” and “I’m a Believer.” And does anybody remember “Heartlight”? I do! WSH
