Election 2008 Sho Dozono Conceded, Meet Mayor Sam Adams

Posted by Amy J. Ruiz on Tue, May 20 at 8:42 PM

Dozono conceded on TV, so I hear via Adams, who’s heading up to the stage…

“These are unbelievable election results. I am incredibly happy, and stunned, I have to be honest with you,” Adams just told the crowd. “Just a few minutes ago, Sho Dozono, my main opponent, very graciously conceded…” Crowd goes apeshit.

“And I want to thank him for being such a worthy opponent. He deserves a big cheer.”

“As mayor I will be working hard with all of you, and believe me, you’re going to be working hard as well, to unite behind a common vision, and to unite behind common actions that will move this city forward. Together we can make Portland cleaner, greener, more sustainable… we’ve done it before, and we can do it again!”

“As we’ve said all along the campaign trail, we want to make Portland not just a city we belong to, but a city we believe in.”

Adams is introducing his staff, campaigners, and his grandma. “Don’t mess with my grandma, I tell ya.” He’s also thanking the spouses and significant others of his staf.

More thank yous, for “Mom and her partner Stewart,” his sisters, a cousin, his political mentors Peter DeFazio and Vera Katz, Erik Sten, Randy Leonard, “thank you both,” and “governors John Kitzhaber and Barbara Roberts.”

He’s reeling off all of his endorsements and supporting organizations… his staff… “the only thing harder being the transportation commissioner for the city of Portland is being a staffer for the transportation commissioner for the city of Portland.” And his campaign staff… “aren’t they amazing?”

More numbers elsewhere: Nick Fish has clearly won, with 61 percent of the vote—which also ends the city council’s short staffed-ness.

Amanda Fritz still has the huge lead in the council race, followed by Charles Lewis. John Branam is 600 votes behind Lewis, and Jeff Bissonnette about 250 behind him. I don’t know that there are enough votes outstanding to close any of those gaps.

Sweet, I'm moving out of Portland just in time for Sam Adams to ruin it.

Sweet! Because - we won't miss you.
Congrats Sam! I am proud to be a Portlander.

hey tbone, please explain how adams could do a worse job than katz or potter....

even if adams wasted time/energy on trying to build a bridge over the 405 to connect old yuppie ville to new yuppie ville, he still cares about cyclists.
